How are you protecting your identity? Lifelock?

How does everyone here keep from getting their identity stolen? Lifelock? Having the credit bureaus lock your profile? Any other viable options?

I try to cultivate an identity no one would want to steal

I buy everything through one of my TD alters.

My identity carries

I try to answer at least one Facebook quiz a day with questions like:
What was the name of your first pet?
What was you first vehicle?
Where did you go to middle school?
Etc…

I changed my gender to X and now it confuses everyone and nobody wants to use my identity.

My password is 123567. Uncrackable.

I recently signed up with IdentityForce because someone opened a CC in my wife's name, but they screwed up and applied for a company she already used, so she got an email about it and canceled the card. Added my daughters to account and discovered that there is a latino in California using the 12 year old's SSN. Unfortunately, you can only request credit reports for a minor by mail, and we had to put on a mail hold because of the fraudulent mail forward that the person who stole my wife's info had submitted.
Now we wait of Bank of America's useless asses to undo the credit changes and the USPS Inspector General to undo the forward.

Check my credit report once a year. My amex, Citi, and discover all give me my Fico every statement. Also use credit karma.

Have credit karma and my credit cards tell me anytime there was a new application/hard hit on my credit report. Applied for a car loan the other day, and before I got off the phone with my bank already had e-mails from Chase, Cap One & Credit Karma. Won't keep it from getting stolen, but will know when someone tries to do something with it.

I protect mine by having a poor credit score

I have alerts from various credit cards (Cap One and Amex) along with Chase and Experian free service.
I recently received an alert that a hard inquiry had been made which affected my credit score. It was from Cap One with whom I already have an account.
I called and found out that someone applied for a credit card in my name, using my personal info, to be shipped to Chicago. Where I definitely do not live.
Thanks god I caught it in time, but I had to put a fraud alert and a credit freeze on all three bureaus. Now I have to deal with the BS of getting the hard inquiry removed from my reports.

Might get a lot a wise cracks here but I can testify, if you ever do have your identity stolen, it is a nightmare trying to get ahead of the situation, about 3 years ago someone stole the mail from our mailbox at less than 60 feet from our front door, they hit it at least 2-3 times before we realized they were taking our mail and they did it in late January at a time when our employment W-2’s and year end income tax information was in our mail.
We realized something had happened when we started getting notices from Synchrony, Sam’s, Wal-Mart, and 3-4 credit card companies thanking us for applying for credit cards and confirming their approvals.
We got the local law involved and had to make multiple cancellation calls and scrambled through several days of calls and online communication trying to head off the theft.
I had previously contacted all 3 credit bureaus to have credit monitored because of a lost wallet but what I didn’t realize was that to actually prevent someone from applying for credit in your name, you have to ask them to LOCK your credit. I had also started a LifeLock account but unfortunately it took Lifelock several days to notice and contact us so alot of damage had already been done before they alerted us.
The most important thing I learned from it all was that really everybody needs to request a lock on their credit, it’s something you can do for free yourself and one of the first thing a credit protection company like Lifelock is gonna recommend.
Once you have it locked, the credit bureaus will each give you an identification number which becomes your credit identity, when you need to finance something or use your credit, you go to the bank, car dealer, whatever and start the credit application, you tell them your credit is locked and you ask them which credit bureau they use to verify your credit, you then call that bureau (Equifax, Experian or TransUnion). Tell them your credit is locked and you want to temporarily unlock it, you give them the ID number they assigned to you and they unlock your credit so the loan agency can verify it, then they lock it back, unlock is for a limited time and whoever is doing the loan needs to get their credit check done or you have to go through the release process again.
It’s a little work and maybe a little hassle, but believe me, it’s far better than having a thief be able to randomly apply for credit in your name, steal from you and ruin your credit.

fwiw....if you keep a decent amount in your checking account the bads guys look for it...they then go on the dark web and buy your information from bad guy services for a few hundred dollars....they use this to open fake accounts at places like schwab... ( i got a debit card and checks from schwab which alerted me that someone else opened an account) ....they then move money from your account to the fake one and then empty the fake one....they test with a few small amounts and if works they drain your account over a few days with large movement..
when i was at my bank i asked is this common...
they said yes.... like a few times a day...
