Wow, you carry that much in each car, that’s great but where do you put groceries?

To add to the nice list of supplies, In no particular order I also carry Burn Jel, Sam Splints, Activated Charcoal (for poisoning), Oximeter, Glutose15, Celox-A plunger & Steri Strips.

What is the best way for someone with no experience in first aid and tourniquets to learn how to properly use them? I hunt 2+ weeks a year over an hour away from a hospital. I now have a young son that will soon be going along with me. I have no problem purchasing an upgraded kit or piecing it out but have no experience using any of these things.

If you are in Bham, UAB does a class.
The Fire College in Tuscaloosa also has a ton of stuff.

South Louisiana unfortunately

If you have no experience at all i would stop by fire station and shoot the shite with a few of the guys and go from there. Most are prior service and a few will teach classes on the side

Dark Angel Medical does good classes. There are others. Google Stop the Bleed, TCCC classes, tactical medicine classes. Feel free to list any names you come across and I will let you know if I know them or know of them. It's a pretty small community. It's worth one or two days of going to a class to get a skill that will last a lifetime.

Thanks. These seem like a good place for me to start.

I am also betting you are trolling me.
Not at all. I still hear a lot of people with no training, talk about stuffing a tampon into a wound.
I recognized you had more credibility to speak to it here than I do.
I haven’t trained with him yet, but I’ve been following Lonestar Medics, among others for some time now, picking up what I can.

My SO teaches Stop the Bleed. Maybe we could host an OB class one of these days.

I’ve been wanting to catch him when he’s in Grant Parish running with TYR Group.

The internet almost burned down last month when an allegedly competent "expert" (turns out he was full of it) opined that tampons had a place in a trauma kit. So many real experts piled on this guy that it almost caused some message boards to crash. It was pretty brutal. Any mention of tampons can cause people to be banned to this day.
At the risk of getting flamed (again ), I do carry 2 or 3 in my bug out bag.....
... But they were for "other emergencies" not first aid purposes.

As silly as it sounds, YouTube. Skinny Medic and Prep Medic have good information on trauma treatment. I took the medical class with Advantage Group and much of what was covered in there I had already been exposed to on those YouTube channels. Unfortunately, I don't think they're offering classes anymore. Not 100% ideal, but YouTube can be a decent substitute or a good starting point.

I did one of these with them, it was a good intro with real world application.
It just scratched the surface though.

That solves the question for all the local guys asking about a class. I had no idea Caleb had been working with Tyr.
I can 100% recommend LoneStar Medics and Caleb Causey. Tyr Group are good guys as well.

It was a good class, but like some of their other classes I've taken, it seemed a bit rushed.

I'm enjoying this thread. I hate to say it but I've been thinking about getting or putting together a small med kit to keep in my hunting pack in case of emergencies, but never acted on it. Not sure what I would need or if a tourniquet is a necessity, but reading through these posts seems like I should at least consider one. I normally bowhunt but sometimes gun hunt, and am anywhere from 1/2 mile to 1.5 miles away from the road on public land in most cases. I'm sure things can go awry in a hurry unfortunately and I need to quit waiting and just get one. Any recommendations for what I'm looking for and if I should get a tourniquet as well?
