New Orleans Pelicans center Jonas Valanciunas has agreed on a two-year extension worth $30.1 million, his agents Aaron Mintz, Mitch Nathan and Drew Morrison of @CAA_Basketball tell ESPN.

Valanciunas is now committed to the Pelicans for $44.1M over the next three seasons.

Better than the Adams deal, and will be worth the cost.

Not sure why there has been a trend to extend centers that haven’t played a game for us

Oh man. Look, that is a good deal for a player of his caliber, for sure.

But part of what people liked about the deal was that we weren't committed to future salary and didn't jump the gun like they did with Adams.

I think it's vastly different, not really comparable IMO.

This is great value, I like it. I hated the Adams deal the moment it came out. JVal is just a much better player.

The Adams special. I'm glad it's a much better deal than what Adams received. Although I'm a little surprised given how the Adams debacle played out.

Glad we don't have to worry about the position after the season because Hayes just doesn't have the beef to anchor the center position for 82 games.

I agree. Jonas is a much better player and this is a good deal monetarily.

#Pelicans C Jonas Valancuinas on contract extension said after going through preseason with the Pels he decided he wanted to stay here.

This is actually an interesting tidbit:

Pelicans have a lot of flexibility via trade, and Jonas extension is smaller than his cap hold ($21m) would have been this summer.

Thats a new one...baw gets traded here and decides he likes it here before he even plays a game...sign this man up for a lifetime contract!

It sounds like it was "entirely" his decision, meaning that we likely offered it but he wanted to see what it was like here, and once he saw that he was comfortable and liked it, he bought in.

Seems like a good deal but I’m still hurting about the Adams extension last year.

JV is infinitely better than Adams.

In fact we will need him BIGLY while Zion is out.

Solid deal. Griff has missed the mark at times , but he has signed some good value contracts this offseason with Graham, Hart, and now Jonas.

cap hold or not, can we just not sign people to extensions before we actually see them play with our fricking franchise players??

I seriously can not get over how obsessed Griff is with old school centers.

I like Jonas better than Adams fit wise, but jfc

Honestly, this just makes me realize how f'ing horrible the steven adams extension was. Jonas seems light-years better fit, without actually being a good fit, and yet still cheaper by a significant amount.

This seems like good value and the only reason anyone is even hesitant to think that is because it came from the same person that did the Adams extension, perhaps for the same flawed reasoning. Fortunately I think this one will work out better.

We need people that want to be here. Point blank period. Im sick of this back and forth begging dudes to be locked in. What Jonas brings that’s different from Adams is that he can score. We need his scoring, especially early in the season when Zion is out. We need buy in.

We definitely seem to have a higher hit percentage with European players.

Can we bring back Mirotic and package everything for Luka?

I think jonas is going to surprise some people this year. Slimmed down and can make an outside shot.
