I'm pretty sure the state is 4th in total # of NFL players and only 9th or 10th in population.

Louisiana and Mississippi have dominated the per capita NFL numbers for decades, although Nebraska, Oklahoma and Bama all do well in the category. Georgia isn't even on the radar, per capita.

are those the only positions?

We struggle to fill offensive tackle and QB slots from within the state, without question, historically.

Toss up.

Both are willing to pay coaches and their staffs well, both are in the SEC, both have rabid fanbases, both are in fertile recruiting grounds, both have world-class facilities. I think a good coach can win at either program.

I honestly don't think either is better than the other.

They are very comparable jobs. I think we just have baws thinking about making 120k per year in Athens vs BR. That's not the world these coaches live in

i don't know why people get so hung on per capita? per haps because it benefits us? it adds a little perspective but will always be smaller states. There are more people in Houston or Atlanta than all of La. You could build a championship team every year of just Calif, Texas, Florida and maybe Georgia players, you couldn't do that in La.

he was implying the La WR/RB/DB proves its been than Ga.. I honestly don't know how many WR/DB come from Ga (definitely more than zero) but RB from crying out load, has always been a Ga staple

but I strongly believe winning big at UGA will be on a different level in prestige than winning big at LSU in terms of media/legacy/money considerations when/if it happens

LSU is an elite program but if we have such an advantage over the rest of the country please explain the 90s to me because those were my HS and college years and we sucked arse. Coaching matters

coaching matters but there are other factors too like money. Prior to Emmert and Saban, LSU was running shoestring athletic department our facilities were crap we weren't making anything near the revenue we do now. The instate talent was always there, that's why people called LSU a sleeping giant, getting your act together means putting in the resources (money, administrative support) to build the program.

Right now it would be UGA just because it is in the eastern division.

Any team with a pulse can win the east.

How many P5 football teams in Texas? At least before aTm came to the SEC, LSU recruited Houston very, very well.

RB from crying out load, has always been a Ga staple

LSU almost never needs to go out of state for RBs. There's only 1 football. Teams play 3 to 5 WRs at a time, 5 or 6 DBs and 85-man scholarship rosters will often have 25 or more of just these 2 position types. How many scholarship RBs? 4 to 6, maybe.

This is silly. There are just so many competitive teams in CA, TX and FL. Georgia gets poached by everybody and, while UGA has done well recruiting the state under Kirby, they still get poached by neighboring Clemson, FSU, Bama, Florida, etc.

LSU's advantage has always been it is the only big league school in a very talent rich state. If either Ole Miss or (more likely) MSU closed tomorrow, the other school would instantly be a better program long-term for similar reasons.

Maybe a little, but UGA as an overall entity is in another world than LSU. There are very few schools with the upside of UGA - great school, great town, big state, big student body, big money, historic, big brand, etc. Even fewer that dominate a top 10 state and top 10 city like UGA does AND have legitimate powerhouse capability in football (scratch UNC, UVA, etc.)

if UGA has all those advantages than why doesn't it correlate to football titles, basketball NCAA success and baseball titles. UGA perpetually underachieves
