Another BIG reason why container ships are stacked up on the west coast

Sundance explains the issue behind the container backup in LA and SD ports.
Basically, California imposed new emission standards on trucks meaning there is only a small number of compliant trucks to uplift the containers. They are taking containers to the state border and putting them onto normal trucks for further shipping.
But the fact only a limited number of trucks can uplift them, is why they're stacking up and no amount of overtime will solve the issue.
And they're pretending it's anything but that which is causing the issue.
And solving it requires extensive and expensive supply chain reshaping which is only available to big players, not people who just ship containers on a case by case basis. And players like Amazon have been aware of this for years and have been working to resolve it themselves.

In my daily experience, this just isn’t the case. The vast majority of the containers I’m running out of LA/Long Beach are staying within state, with the exception being the straight dray runs to Phoenix. Dual transactions are becoming more common but it’s all about turn around time coming in and leaving the port, that is the biggest issue at hand from my perspective.
This is called transloading and happens all the time on longer lanes due to dray carriers being more localized and wanting to go home every night. Generally happens within 20 miles of port, not at the state line.

If this is true, it's interfering with interstate commerce and the feds should seek an injunction.
Trump would.
Brandon won't.

I'd normally assume there was none d/t proximity. But all the news refers solely to LB, not LA.

This makes a ton of sense. The democrats have spent years trying to find out how to take down small businesses. They want only a few mega corporations to run everything so they can exert more control.

Union Pacific and BNSF are limiting the number of trains they are hauling out of LA/LB, along with other ports, as their intermodal terminals in the midwest are clogged due to a lack of trucks and consignees being slow to unload containers which makes chassis scarce.
Things downstream are furthering the delays at the coastal ports.

I hadn't heard about this new law, requiring trucks less than 3 years old. That's nuts.

no wonder cackle laugh made so many Cally trips. this deal is an old Cally dem green deal; calling for brand new to 3 year old semi trucks.
follow the money to who is getting a new beach house in cash from selling 'green compliant' semi trucks that are said to be saving mother earth now. saving mother earth my
so why doesn't Cally tell Uncle Joe numbnuts to send them billions to pay for a new fleet of trucks, as they have another forest fire because they are cognitively impaired?
they won't waste more money too soon because they want a crisis.

They are separate entities but basically right next to each other, just depends on the SSL. I think for news sake they combine the two for an easier talking point. With the close proximity, these ships are essentially all trying to get into the same place.

Or a cheaper way would be to cancel the new (stupid) rules, and let the truckers do their jobs.
This is about as dumb as California outlawing weedeaters.
Land of nuts and freaks.

Why are we buying things that have to be shipped here?

Im in the trucking industry, these regulations aren't necessarily new. California has required emissions compliant commercial vehicles for several years, basically any truck older than 2007 isn't allowed in the state unless retrofitted with emissions equipment. As time has gone by and older equipment gets replaced with newer equipment it's gotten a little easier but yes, not every truck you see going down the road can get into California so this drastically cuts down on availability and drives rates through the roof most times. California is always up and down too, lanes that 12 months ago I moved for $1/mile are now costing $4/mile or more.

This is almost a literal replay of Carter 1970's. He did the same thing with oil, gas, energy, and transportation where there were these standards that just popped up overnight, and they were next to impossible to meet. It's almost like all of this chaos is by design, hmmmm.

Heard on the radio that the Longshoremen's Union will also not allow owner-operators anywhere near the docks. There are a lot of owner-operators.
California is screwing itself every which way.

There's also a problem of the SoCal port not operating like their global rivals such as Dubai, Singapore, and Rotterdam which unload and upload cargo from all over 24/7, something Biden touted yesterday as something he'd gotten fixed. Port experts, speaking to the Washington Post, say it's not a fix, given that truckers have no warehouses open at the wee hours to take their container shipments to
