Name an NFL coach that transitioned to LSU and subsequently was an effective coach
All I can think of are coaches that could not make that step

Hire a current College coach who will be here for 10+ yrs

I dont want an NFL coach just for the short term of recruiting. They wont be in the picture at all for this class if their nfl team makes the playoffs

The early signing day makes hiring an NFL coach as head coach almost impossible unless they are a mid-season fire or have sat out after being fired the season before. You just have to wait too damn long to talk to an active coach.

Bill (and I liked Bill) really screwed us though. Stuck us with Mike Archer and hired Spurrier at UF.

College and the NFL are too different. With college football, so much of it comes down to recruiting. If Sean Payton got canned tomorrow, I wouldn't want LSU to hire him.
Pete Carroll, Jim Harbaugh and Matt Rhule (so far) are rare birds.

Thank the LSU board for that. Spurrier wanted the LSU job. He got treated like shite so he took the Florida job.

Tom Coughlin
Pete Carroll
Jim Harbaugh
Dennis Erickson
Jim Mora was great at UCLA for awhile

It’s not common because most coaches stick to one or the other.

college and NFL are ENTIRELY different games. Recruiting is the huge difference.

I’d much prefer a college coach.

Nfl coaches are a bad idea. Half the job is recruiting!

Doug Pederson could very well be your next coach.

I think it can work but I agree that I'd rather hire a college coach. That transition seems to fail way more often than it succeeds.

I would have no problem with Doug Pederson….if u want a clean cut straight laced Coach to clean up the image and has had success at the highest level….if he wanted it he would be successful here. Great offensive coach and even better person
