No, just bring your passport and current DL. Pay the money, take new picture and get the exact same ID except the new one has a yellow star (seems familiar to something.. oh never mind I got side tracked) on it.

I just renewed my license last week and decided on the real ID. It cost the same thing as a regular license does. You just need the proper identification. You also have to go to the DMV because of the documents that they have to verify. I brought my passport, birth certificate, utility bill and internet bill because I wasn’t sure what they would use. They ended up using my birth certificate and the two bills I brought with me. I was in & out within 15 minutes. A LITTLE FYI. YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT NOW IF YOU ARE GOING TO THE DMV. I didn’t know this and was turned away. I sat in the car and made an appointment. Luckily they had an opening at the same time I was there. Walked right back in and took care of it. They said the appointments are required because of Covid. Everything is because of Covid

There’s a very detailed checklist of items you can use to verify your identity. And it’s definitely not just a passport. I got my real Id on my last visit. Very easy. But I did almost not pass the sight test.

I got mine at the DMV in August. It was basically renewing my driver's license with an extra piece of paper or two (utility bill & Birth Certificate). It is a freaking driver's license that has one mark on it that distinguishes it from the old license...that's it.

If it’s just pretty much the same, then why make people get it to begin with?
The hassle is the objective. It’s a piece of legislation designed to make citizens dance and jump through hoops to mitigate the unfounded fear that if we didn’t make citizens jump through hoops, another 9/11 might happen.

I feel like REAL ID should be for drivers license and voting. Proves you live where you say you live.

I remember when this first passed. The lines at DMV was no joke. Even with an appointment, you still wasted a whole day there waiting in endless lines.
