The blue print to beat this team on defense is already out there. SEC teams will throw to the running backs and tight ends. If we don’t stop this it will be along season. I definitely liked the play of Baskerville and Clark last night but we will need Mike Jones when we start the SEC slate coming up. I just don’t think Clark and Baskerville are good in coverage.

The Kennel Blindness is impressive.

Clark was still late on getting on the RB on the wheel. He made up for it by being the better athlete last night. Power 5 matchup won’t be the same

Linebackers and safeties are horrible. Somewhat held up against McNeese and CMU, but defense will be far from great in the SEC. I do appreciate the optimism though

There were defenders in position on almost every play. I noticed the improvement right away.

Outside of Maason, Roy, Evans & Guillory all flashed
Was really surprised at Guillory. He sniffed out two screens. Was getting great push. And his effort his high
I know people give Moffit shite, but Guillory has totally reworked his body from last year. And the DL as a whole just seem really fit

We need some blitz packages! They are trying to out athlete the oline with 4 guys.

They looked to be improved but there were missed assignments again on crossing routes. Baskerville completely missed a receiver that was wide open that would've been a 40 yd gain

Yep. Big boy was getting after it. And definitely looks like more than a 3-4 NT/ space eater

The SEC will be much different....

Sad. It was pretty non contact also. The olineman was there but you could tell when he went to the grown he tore something

Getting Jay Ward back is going to be like night and day difference. Kid is the QB of the D. Burns is okay but Jay is a better communicator and making sure guys get where they need to be.

That 1st half of defense last night was the best half we have played since since 2019.
Still a ways to go but if we played like that against SEC competition, I would be ecstatic.

Most ACL tears are non-contact. That’s awful for the young man, he’s persevered through so much and was playing great.

I'm still not sold on us controlling the edge, I don't think we have any true DE unless we try and move Smith there. If we don't contain the edge we are going to se ucla runs all over us again, LB still a weak point

The DL is obviously imposing.
quote:couldn't set the edge for shite. Didn't do much better against McNeese either, they were just so much slower they couldn't take advantage. Did a very good job last night. Set the edge and let IL and LBs clean up on the plant inside.
Even early on against UCLA the DL was doing very well containing their run, setting the edge, etc., but they made some adjustments and we got tired
quote:Firstly, frick this zone. Supposed to cover space and help with run support. Over 3 games it hasn't done either. Let Ricks and Stingley take away their best.
We, obviously, had a major blown coverage but only one really bad one. That's an improvement (and is to be expected running a lot more zone, which we historically suck at. Even Aranda had growing pains with that).
Secondly- 3 games in a row where a wide arse open TE scores a TD on a long pass play. So dumb. And wide arse open against a zone I might add. No one even over the top. 3 games.
quote:Damn skippy.
Tackling was lights out last night. This combines with the energy part to really give hope moving forward.
quote:Definitely. Some people's manhood got challenged. LBs actually tried to control gaps and attack holes instead of only moving laterally.
Energy level looked really good. DBs and LBs were flying around to close down angles.

I thought both TDs were really bad blown coverages, though I guess Burns on the long one was worse.
Yeah, we had 2 or 3 really bad blown coverages.
