How do they come up with the "Electric Base Rate Charge"? A friend's August bill was ridiculously high, so I wanted to see their bill and saw this "Electric Base Rate Charge"...Please help me understand how they come up with that charge, which was over $400. Ouch.

It’s called “how much can we charge users to recoup a force majeure event that costs us money?”
So they make shite up to punish customers for nature dealing them an unlucky hand

King Chicken Baw, we are entering into the realm of theoretical pretend math. I'm not sure the human computer lady from that NASA movie could figure this one out.

Don’t worry destroya and the city council is about to take on entergy and decide New Orleans can run their own electric thru a non profit

I have Entergy LA. Not Entergy NOLA. But we have the base rate, the fuel adjustment, and the storm charges.
The base rate is what is regulated by the state.

Utility companies basically have zero risk. When storms frick their infrastructure up they can just add fees and adjustments and there’s nothing you can do.

It’s how much energy used times the base rate. The other charges will be add ons like hurricane rider.

It is regulated and decided on by the city if you live in New Orleans. The state if outside of New Orleans.

It could be like mine. We built a new house and had the permanent meter installed in March. We moved into the house in May and ever since the permanent meter was installed the bill says that it has been estimated. The total kWh’s use on the bill is 2900 the total on the meter it is 5400 so a difference of 2500 kWh used that I haven’t paid for. So as it figure I owe them about $400 when they finally bring their lazy arse out here and read my meter. I’ve called 3 times and sat on hold for over an hour each time and have never been able to talk to anyone about it. So this afternoon I decided to send them a frick your sorry arse company email to see if that gets them to correct their shite before it gets to be $1000 bill.

kWh use times the price per kWh that has been approved by the state. It also includes any fees and riders which pay for energy efficiency programs, previous storm recovery, vegetation management, etc.
Fuel charge is the per kWh charge for the fuel used to generate the electricity supplied by the RTO for your area.
Also, I’ve seen others say only the base rate is regulated. This is not true. Every charge to the penny has to be presented to the PUC and approved before being put on a bill. Even the bill design has to be approved.

Entergy customers want to know why they’re being fricked.
Entergy’s response...

The house I have in New Orleans was actually less, because no power for 12 days. That bill makes no sense.
