Late Kick Live with Josh said an agent told him he believes the LSU job will be open

Go to the 31:50 mark
He was discussing the USC job with an agent off the record and he told Josh that USC is not in any hurry to find a coach because he believes the LSU job will be open and there will be candidates trying to leverage themselves for the opening spots. I’m just happy we don’t have Alleva anymore being used for the LSU job like the Tom Herman fiasco Thanksgiving night. He also said that LSU is viewed as a bette thin then USC so people will wait on LSU if it became open. I never heard Scott Woodward being used or having egg on his face. I feel good that Woodward can make the right hire.

Not that it won’t happen, but an agent telling a media host something doesn’t mean much.

I mean it’s pretty obvious that it’s going to take something fairly dramatic for O to keep his job at this point.

I think if Woody wasn’t already preparing for a fire then we’re in trouble.
I know for a fact coaches have contacted us.

This doesn't make sense. USC doesn't want coaches leveraging other open jobs to increase the price tag for their open job. That would mean that they are in a hurry to fill it before other leverage-inducing jobs open.

Is it just me or does that not make any sense...
Why would USC wait for the LSU job to open and allow their candidates to use the leverage?
Isn't the whole point of firing a coach this early to avoid a bidding war?
Or are they seriously waiting for O to be available?

EVERYONE knows it will happen.
Just a matter of when. My guess, is the next embarrassing loss.

I'm sure every agent (except maybe O's) is thinking the LSU job will likely be open. Obviously, that could change depending upon how the season goes.
Woodward is the bozo that UNNECESSARILY gave O a big salary bump following the 2019 season (NO ONE was ever going to try to steal O away from LSU) and he is going to be the guy that will have to go to the boosters to fund the unnecessary buyout he created. These are likely the same boosters that had pay for last year's buyouts to overhaul the staff so that may not be all that confident in Woodward considering just one year later he would be asking them to, again, buyout virtually an entire staff. Particularly in light of the fact he was the moron that signed off on Pelini's big contract...despite the fact Pelini (like Orgeron) had virtually no market demand to justify that salary. In other words, his "credit score" with the money people may not be all that high right now.
I know many on here think Woodward is some sort of demi-god. But he very much got drunk on the success of 2019, as did so many, and overspent because of it rather than seeing a POTENTIAL world beyond 2019. That's not to say he couldn't make a great hire. And I am CONFIDENT he wouldn't just make the "easy" and lazy hire like Alleva did. But he may have his hands tied a bit more than what most assume.
Yes, O had the 2019 season. But his tenure has also had a lot of "dead money" in it as well. He forced the AD to buyout two high priced coordinators after just one season, as well as a co-OC. If this year crashes then the AD is going to have to both buyout a HC and entirely new staff again, after one season, AND spend a ton to bring in a NEW staff. That is a lot of money to ask people for in a relatively short period of time.

Don’t forget that president CRT has to sign off on the hiring. He probably wants Stump Mitchell

I mean, if I were an agent I would be saying the same thing. I think everyone believes the LSU job will be open.

Two people who don't know shite. Big news here.

Yeah, Ed O at LSU with Joe Burrow is 25 and 3 and without Joe Burrow is 21 and 12. That’s a 63% win rate. And if the season goes at all like it looks like it might go, you’re looking at another .500 season at best. So 26 and 18. That will put him at below 60%.
We’re talking about being the 4th best team in the SEC West if we’re lucky. We may be worse than Ole Miss and Arkansas. Hell, not sure we’re better than Moo State. We may be dead last and not win a single game in the SEC.
Anyone looking at this, agent or otherwise, has to be thinking to themselves that this is about to blow up.

This happened in 06/07 too.
Herbie's announcement got us stuck with Les for another decade.

Tom Herman fiasco
How was this a fiasco? Herman was offered the job, but he wanted the Texas job. Some of you look too hard to find drama.

If you’re a coach, why would you rather USC over LSU? USC, while great, has really only had success lately with Pete Carroll. LSU has championships with Les Miles and Ed Orgeron. If they can win one, then any coach worth anything could do the same or better. And that’s playing in the SEC west, the toughest division in college football. And you can argue that winning a championship can’t save you from being fired for a few bad seasons. But in reality, the only reason Les Miles and probably Ed O are fired would be for pure incompetence and an unwillingness to adapt and adjust.

Fickell would be USC
Meyer- USC
Freeze- LSU
Kiffin- LSU
That’s what I think of those 4 right now, as to what I believe they would consider
Napier- would be lazy hire

I really hope that we don’t make a hire for the sake of change. Hire the right guy who we can rely on longterm
Going from a 5 win season under O to an 8 win season under coach whoever really doesn’t do much for me. Bring us annual playoffs with a championship every now and then

A little bird told me you know nothing about football, he was right. He also whispered to me Josh and you are idiots he was right again.

Look, I believe without marked improvement, the LSU job will be open too.
But, let's always remember, it's an agent's job to make people believe jobs will be open. That helps him drive getting his lower profile clients attention and helps him get his higher profile clients raises and extensions. They always want more jobs to be open than really are.
Don't trust rumors: trust press conferences.
