Then you get a Newsom or Biden and you don't even get half of what you want unless what you want is constant bitching.

Need to take the primaries more seriously. Time to have the purity tests is then.
In general election always go with least awful.

There are some really interesting points made in this thread. For instance, Ricardo’s comment about the “religious zeal” of the left. They like to paint the boogeyman of bible thumping Karens trying to dictate how others live their lives when that is, in fact, exactly what the left is doing.
Republicans seem to be a collection of groups with differing principles which they take from their various religious and personal beliefs who try to vote for the candidate most aligned with the beliefs they hold. They avoid voting for candidates who are not.
To Democrats, on the other hand, their party’s narrative is the source of those beliefs. So they vote with it no matter the issue and no matter how internally inconsistent those beliefs can be.
There was a great podcast a few years ago, I think from Freakanomics, that talked about how the Democratic Party realized that people were more motivated by a perceived moral high ground than by logical policy arguments, and they positioned themselves accordingly.
They also realized that if you can get, for instance, a local DA elected who is beholden to the party, then it doesn’t matter if the state or federal government is ruled by the other party - you can still implement your policy. So big money started going into local elections.

This is where I am at.
I actually believe the Republicans winning the Georgia runoffs would have been worse. It would have given them a slight majority in the senate, and McConnell would then be all about using his majority to "work together" on bipartisan deals.
Being in the minority means they have a much easier time not going along.
I've been saying, we still get the 4 trillion dollar spending bills and infrastructure bills if the Georgia Republicans win the senate runoffs. They would have "negotiated" those bills at 4 trillion, saying the democrats were demanding 8 trillion, and were talked down to 4 trillion as a compromise.

You understand people often lie when they say who they voted for?

Are Romney, Murkowski, Collins, Toomey, etc. ultimately any different than a Democrat? That’s is the rub and an example of the issues faced by Republican voters.
Yes. Here is my argument. Who is in charge is determined by the party affiliation that has the most representatives. So, to control the agenda, what bills get brought to the floor, etc., you need to have 51 members of a party (50 if your party has the presidency). You are never going to get a true conservative republican from a state like Maine, but Collins having an "R" behind her name as opposed to the alternative helps for that reason. The bills that are being debated on the floor would never have seen the light of day if Turtle was still controlling the senate and thus the RINOS votes would have been neutralized. The majority controls the chair of committees, what bills come up for discussion, etc. So, a bad republican is better than a Dem any day. That being said, Cassidy sucks!

The problem is many in this thread lecturing us about how we need to hold our nose and vote for RINOs are the same ones who will say we need to nominate the RINOs in the primaries because of muh electability, if the more conservative candidate wins the media will smear him and we can't have that, we need to nominate the RINO because the media totally won't smear him in the general.

No one is going to vote for Romney or whatever establishment moron the GOP trots out in 2024. Let that dream die.
I just don't understand how y'all think Biden or Camel Toe is better for the country than Romney. It makes no sense.

The problem is that if the far right does not geteverything it wants it threatens to take the ball and run home with it.

Romney is Biden/Camel Toe.

We don't.
We are saying that there is not much difference between the two.
Romney is a uniparty stooge who doesn't put Americans first.
No matter how hard you lecture us on why we need to nominate Romney or Nikki Haley in 2024, it won't change the fact that many of us will stay home if they get the nomination.
This is why you are so off base. You believe if we nominate these RINOs, then the media will play nice. Wrong... Romney and Haley may be loved by the media and left now but just wait until they are up against a democrat in a race.

I think there are two types of scenerios.
1) The RINO wins the primary. If that's the case... then I'd argue the true conservative was a terrible candidate... they are bat crazy, serious character flaws, something like that.
Usually when a true conservative loses a runoff, it's because they are crazy, and that's how you get Doug Jones in the Senate.
2) A non-RINO wins the primary... but the other candidates / their supporters won't fall in line behind the primary winner. For example, David Vitter in 2015. No one would ever accuse him of being a RINO, right?

Charles Krauthammer used to say republicans think democrats are dumb, and democrats think republicans are evil.
I think its changed now. i think democrats are evil, theyre on the wrong side of every moral issue.... and republicans are dumb, they dont even do the obvious things to win elections.

I would argue that Romney is worse. Because Republicans in Congress would pass all of Romney’s nonsense. They at least pretend to fight the far-left when it’s labeled as the far left.
George W. gave us No Child Left Behind with a corresponding incredible increase in Federal education funding and the expansion of Medicare with part D. Bush increased discretionary spending by almost 50%.
Trump did even worse as far as gross outlays. And the Republicans had no problem following him into the ditch.

What type of fighting do you want. The RNC has adopted just about all of the " conservative" positions and for a lot of you it is never enough.

What specifically makes Larry "far right" in your opinion?
Please be detailed and point out his policies to justify your asinine statement
Lets see, he is against a minimum wage at all and against all welfare programs.
He thinks slave owners should get reparations for the government taking away their property.
The fact that he is a conservative radio host. I have never heard of a "centrist" radio host. If there is one, please let me know. They make money by appealing to the far right and spewing lies that they know their base will eat up.

If there's 1 percent difference between the two... I'll take the RINO. Still better - even if only a little bit better.

I'm not saying to nominate a RINO. I'm saying whoever the nominee is... vote for them before Biden.
This isn't about primary races. This is about general elections.
