I agree but LSU also pays people to help guide you through your degree plan
I imagine these guys sit in meetings with advisors each semester and depend on their input for scheduling purposes
This entire thing is a clown show

Again, the wrong class rumor is not how eligibility works.

So blame LSU because Emery couldn't pass 12 hours in the Interdisciplinary Studies curriculum ? Yeah that's the attitude Sport, sue someone else because I don't want to accept responsibility when I screw up.
Let the facts be known, IF John Emery passes 12 hours in the Spring we are not having this discussion today.

You have to have certain total credit hours and be making progress towards a degree. For instance, you can't just load up your schedule with 1 hour PE classes or freshman courses every semester and remain eligible just because you have enough hours. The rules are black and white and very easy to follow, and someone dropped the ball big time for this to happen.
He’s 1. Going into his 3rd year of school and 2. And interdisciplinary studies major.l which if you look at the course catalogue involves a TON of Gen Ed classes even beyond a concentration. So what class
Could he possibly take that didn’t advance his degree?

Not to mention that Emery put himself in that situation to begin with. It really shouldn't be too hard to stay eligible with all the benefits athletes have. Really shouldn't need a summer class to keep you eligible.

How would suing LSU help his chances of getting eligible? That makes no sense at all. Do some of you think before you say shite?

And it's certainly possible that he took a course that he passed but didn't bring himself closer to what he needed to get to 40%.
This is very plausible. Another possibility is that he took a class not knowing it was cross-listed for another class he’s already taken. That happened to me: an adviser suggested and registered me for the class, then I didn’t find out that it didn’t count toward my hours earned until after the semester when I was notified that I lost TOPS because it dropped me below full-time for that semester.
Ultimately, it’s the student’s responsibility, but it happens and sucks when it does.

One year at LSU I attended the wrong class for most of the semester. I missed the first couple of classes, and the class I was signed up for switched classrooms with another class that had a similar name.
I took 3 tests for the wrong class and they assigned me grades and everything, and then towards the end of the year the teacher told me I wasn't in the class.
I appealed to have them switch me and have my test grades count, but I was denied and received a zero for the course.

It wouldn't. OP is a moron. Apparently, they're exploring legal options for getting him eligible and OP is too simple to realize that "exploring legal options" does not equate to filing a lawsuit.

Sounds like more likely suing ncaa. LSU rivals has a good write up on the situation.

it's not just 12 hours. To remain eligible, you have to be 40% of the way towards your degree entering your 3rd year, 60% before your 4th year, and 80% before your fifth year. If Emery took a class that resulted in him being less than 40% of the way to his degree, then he's ineligible. And it's certainly possible that he took a course that he passed but didn't bring himself closer to what he needed to get to 40%.
for reference, it's NCAA Bylaw 14.4.3.2
This is good stuff.
Seems to me that LSU was confident they could get Emery a waiver anyway.
And then the NCAA said GTFO with that weak arse shite. Just a day or two before the UCLA game.
This is still mostly Emery's fault. He takes care of his business, none of this happens. But ain't nobody surprised that O can't give us a straight answer. Tell the Truth Monday, my arse.

You are obviously not paying attention. It’s never their fault. This is no surprise to anyone.

Only explanation that makes sense. LSU isn't the one saying he is ineligible. The NCAA is.

So the OP took this headline:
Mike Scarborough of Tiger Bait is reporting that John Emery's family is "pursuing all legal options" in order to get him eligible this season.
and turned it into The Emery Family suing the university and now everyone has jumped on the bandwagon.
This forum has turned into an amateur hour comedy show.

Exactly. No one said anything about the university.

Happened to me too. Took an upper level course in my major that didn’t count towards my major because I needed a class in a different subset of the major instead. Didn’t find out until I was applying to graduate. Hell, even my advisor said I was good to go, which is why I took nothing substantive in my last semester, just enough hours to graduate. Had to come back to take the class I needed in the summer.
Posted on 9/13/21 at 5:48 pm to BrerTiger
And the waiver was used because he didn’t pass the correct amount of classes, not because LSU advisors signed him up for the incorrect class. I’m sure the summer class was needed to look good for the waiver to show he was activity working
