I would guess they’re hiring one of those attorneys that specializes in battling the NCAA, not coming after the school.

But could be wrong
Exactly. LSU filed for a waiver from NCAA (for what has yet to be confirmed), but we filed for a waiver to get eligibility back.

If they're hiring a lawyer it will be one that specializes in fighting the NCAA and it's enforcement (or should I say "inconsistent enforcement") policies.

I'd recommend the one mudbone and Fulton hired. But the school pursued it's available avenues.

Now, I'm not defending anyone at LSU for what caused this; mainly because we're not 100% what the loss of eligibility resulted from. However, I can't help to point out that the compliance department, like most across the nation, was formed mainly for academic compliance and recruiting violations. Drug testing was added later. I see no mention of them anywhere in this great pointing of fingers. Curious.

ETA: for the previous poster regarding the 18 or 24 hrs...
NCAA requires that 18 of the 24 credits be in regular semesters, i.e. you can take more than 6 in the summer but you still better have 18 in the previous semesters.

Also, and this MIGHT be a factor- you are only required to have [satisfactorily completed] 24 per academic year. So as long as 18 of them are not in the summer AND staying full-time you can balance those 18 any way you want. Just make sure you have 18 before summer starts. Period.

NOTES:
- yeah, cheating could cause you to lose hours and while not facing disciplinary action lose hours at the wrong time breaking those rules above.
- Could've dropped a class thinking make it up in summer

[quote]His family should sue him for being dumb.[/quote

And once again you double down on being a prick. He’s essentially trying to appeal a decision by looking for options that are at the ncaa level , and maybe above that, if he’s already appealed the ncaa decision and was denied.

Nobody is getting sued and his intelligence isn’t necessarily tied to the class he thought was going to keep him eligible. That shite happens to a lot of smart people

Seems like you have some problem with alot of the players at lsu for some reason

The eligibility issue was academics. Emery was working to improve his academic standing over summer intersessions but apparently missed the mark in the eyes of the NCAA.

If the rumors are true that someone at LSU had Emery sign up for the wrong class which resulted in him missing a year of football, a lawsuit shouldn't be surprising at all

Because I find it really hard to believe this player has taken 36 hours and none of them being towards a degree.

I’m going with 36 because in another thread someone posted needing 18 per year which is even less than I thought needed. I always thought full time was 24, so between the fall, spring, and summer you needed 24 hrs.

It’s been posted several times in the various threads, but you don’t just get to take one class that counts towards your major and fill the rest of the schedule with BS. Nor do you get to take 4-5 random classes and say “they all count toward some degree.”

The NCAA has requirements for how many credit hours you need each semester/year, and how much progress toward your degree is required.

You have to be enrolled full-time, meaning you have to be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours for fall/spring.

You have to complete at least 18 credit hours each year, not including summer classes. So if you do the math, that means you have to be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours each semester but technically only have to pass 9 credit hours worth of courses.

However, you also have to achieve minimum GPA requirements. If you’re entering the third year of enrollment (like Emery) your GPA must be >95% of the GPA required for graduation. At LSU, that means your GPA must be >1.9 at the start of your third year.

And perhaps most importantly, you have to complete at least 40% of the coursework required to graduate by the start of your third year. So 40% of 120 hours means a minimum of 48 credit hours that count toward your major by the start of your third year.

So effectively, this means you need to complete an average of 24 credit hours toward graduation each academic year with no fewer than 18 hours from fall to spring. If you fall behind, but still have at least your minimum 18 hours from fall-spring, you can make up classes to meet the % of degree requirement (and take extra classes to boost GPA) over the summer.

You sure it's the university and not the NCAA?

I actually have not seen the word "sue" in any press statement. It "says pursue all legal means" which does not necessarily mean that the target is LSU. Really does not say much at all yet.
