The guy is a sophomore majoring in interdisciplinary studies, right? What exactly are "required" classes at this stage? Did he fail to take a required freshman class or remedial class?
Interdisciplinary/gen studies degrees have core requirements. In the past, gen studies required 3 minors (instead of a major), and each minor has its own set of requirements. For some departments, the list and sequence of requirements can be very particular and sometimes vague. The only way to know what to do is to be advised or to study each minor’s section in the general catalogue and then do your own self-audit without making any mistakes.
Think about it: Do you think interdisciplinary studies just gives students carte blanche to take a bunch of random, disparate, unrelated classes? There has to be a degree plan.
And the reason the school cannot confirm or deny anything about academics is because of the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA), which is an act of Congress that makes it illegal for a school employee to disclose any information that is not deemed “public.” Believe it or not, one driving reason behind FERPA is to prevent some of the huge number of past stalking issues — creep show stalkers, significant others, and even estranged family members used to do social engineering to figure out where their target would be at a given time (at a class or dorm) so they could confront/intercept the student there.

I'm sure they'll be as honest as they were about the Arik Gilbert situation.
Say what you want about Coach O and his mistakes but he doesn't throw players under the bus. He protects them. Arik has made his own bed

What about the presumably thousands of students who schedule the right courses without having their hand held?
Actually many students have advisors. The Business School has a entire wing in the 2nd floor devoted to academic advising. So it is not just Football players that get advising. The College of Engineering has an entire Suite in Patrick Taylor devoted to you guessed it, academic advising.

And those advisers are there to make sure that each student stays on track with scheduling the right classes! that's their job!! On top of that most athletic programs have people that are supposed to be verifying that the student athletes are taking the classes needed

College football is a cesspool. Most of these kids do not belong anywhere near a university. What a fricking joke.

If I had to guess, like Baskerville, he had to take & pass a summer school class to be eligible, and he didn’t.
The only thing about that is Orgeron gave an interview at the end of summer saying how proud he was of Emory for getting things done over the summer.

The rule that you should know what you’re talking about does not apply in any way to this forum.
You know this, man

Hester is on Team Sunshine Spin. He gets access and will toe the company line. I don't believe anything he says.
Moreover, the "you're wrong but I won't tell you what's right" is pretty damn annoying. If you're going to call someone out, say WHY they are wrong, not just that they are.

I agree. Whatever happened in this situation I can almost assure John Emery fricked it up somehow someway.

It sounds clear he simply didn’t meet the requirements and they are throwing a Hail Mary with the appeal

I really hope that it comes out.
