What I want to know is how a vaccine got EUA by the FDA largely because of an efficacy of preventing disease at or around a 95% clip. However, now we are seeing that efficacy is approaching closer to 50%.
The virus mutated. Have you not been watching all the news regarding the delta variant?
I'm being serious btw. I keep seeing this come up in threads.

I got 2nd dose Wednesday and I felt like the Dickens most of Thurs. Felt just like when I had the Covid Aids in 2020 but I could smell and taste. Feel better today but still woozy when I get moving too fast or much.
Hope it protects me from dying. You should go head and get it.

I mean, maybe it’s selfish, but I’m young and want to live my life.
I'm curious how you came to the conclusion that getting the second recommended dose on the vaccine is in conflict with "I'm young and want to live my life"
What are you scared of?

I only got one because a lot of bars in the Bay area were requiring at least one.
I only sucked it up and got it since my wife is pregnant and is still breast feeding our 10 month old

My wife was supposed to get #2 and then Ida happened.
Yeah Devil I was supposed to get #2 as well and then got the real Covid 2 weeks after #1 and wound up in the hospital and then on a vent for a week. By the grace of God, I made it off the vent and out of ICU. Checked out of the hospital 2 weeks after getting off the vent and checked into a rehab facility where I did PT (not that kind) 3 hours a day. Got off Oxygen and was zipping around the place abut a week after and they said you are free to leave.
Now I am on the fence on getting #2. Do I have immunity? How long does it last? My Infectous Disease Dr said wait 3 months. I am skeptical, especially after almost dying from real Covid.

I thought about not getting the second shot but did anyway. I had no issues after the first shot. Only a sore arm. The second shot fricked me up for 24 hrs though.

Damn. How old are you? Were you out of it the whole week you were on the vent?

This is what I hear.

So you hear one supposed story and that freaks you out?
Yet hear numerous stories and cases of people that were otherwise healthy dying of COVID and that doesn’t worry you?
You hear numerous stories of people 19 years old dying of COVID? You are lying.
My daughter is close to that age and with no material benefit and no long term studies to indicate safety, I'd never make her get it.
The fertility issues alone are reason to keep her away from it. I would never put her in that position. That's too important to risk.

49 but was in damn good shape. Lifted hard, trained hard, ate clean, not fat, and zero other health issues other than acid reflux issues which I manage plus I did a ton of cardio (BJJ/boxed/ran) prior to Covid.
Yes you are in an induced coma on a vent.

damn
I'm glad you pulled through maybe your ID doc could help you with antibody testing if you have concerns about getting subsequent doses?

Thanks. I am getting blood work done next week just for this very purpose.

Glad you're here to tell us about it

Is this just darkness/nothingness, or were you dreaming? Sorry to bother, you don't have to answer. Comas and near death experiences kind of fascinate me

When you don't understand what those percentages are referring to of course you'd come to incorrect conclusion regarding vaccine efficacy.
It doesn't matter what you think they refer to it matters what we were told by the FDA....which is that Pfizer and Moderna both approached 95% effectiveness at preventing COVID-19 infection.

Where are “we” seeing this?
Stat News....relatively big healthcare new publication
That shows it at 66% in August....I read somewhere last week that some study showed it at below 60% now, but I can't find that.

So then come out and tell us that vaccine is about half as effective against the current and maybe future variants.
We need the truth.
ETA I expect if public health agencies would have told the public the truth from day 1 that maybe more people would have been vaccinated....maybe not....but we would be in a better place either way.
