Peetz scheme was fine but PC and execution was horrible. Darante Jones was just horrible.

That’s the way I see it. I think the offense continues to improve and will be fine. His scheme wasn’t bad. Oline was incredibly bad and the WR core was average but showed some good things. Boutte, Thomas and Jenkins all looked really good at time.

The defense looked like they had no clue. LB play might be the worst I’ve ever seen at LSU. Scheme and play calling was predictable and bland. Aranda was creative even in a bend don’t break style.

Shouldn’t an offensive scheme involve running the ball?

I honestly can't tell a difference at all from last year's team. That was horrible; how do individual players not improve

If only we got a good cover linebacker in the portal for this year, oh wait we did!....and we didn't play him

There is no run scheme and if the plan is to get methodically down the field one 4 yard pass at a time we are completely fricked.

It's clear that Daronte Jones had no ability to adjust. Kelly spent the better half of first half figuring out what was going to work. Once he figured it out, Jones had nothing.

That's a bad sign.

With Peetz, it was similar. It took an entire half to start focusing on the short passing game. Because offense relies so heavily on QB play, I'm guessing he kept waiting for Johnson to figure it out and start making plays.

Again, it's a bad sign when a team with the weapons LSU has is unable to take advantage of an overaggressive defense.

I think that is where scheme and play calling wasn’t good and unimaginative.

It was too slow, out of sync, zero misdirection in running game. I don’t care what “scheme” they run, you just have to execute. It seemed like they couldn’t even run their offense on air.

We could have ran the ball 30 more times and still only gained 20 yards

When they are not the right fit for the scheme being run. We're relying on LBs that learned the 4-3 as starters. Baskerville does, however, Clark hasn't really been the same since the moved from the 3-4. I would love to see how the younger LBs react in the system. But Davey said it best. Some players are great practice players and don't show up in games. Some players are bad practice players, but show up when the lights come on. The only way to find out is during live fire. The coaches simply have to trust what they see in live game action and make changes accordingly, but if your other options don't get a chance to show it, then you're kind of stuck where you are. In other words, let everybody play.

Not trying to establish a run game, snapping the ball every time between 3 -> 0 seconds left, no use of screens. The gameplan was questionable in terms of very easy and simple adjustments a non-coach could spot

We knew they were blitzing, they knew when we were snapping. The O should keep a D on their toes, we did not do that

Totally disagree about the offense. A huge lack of creativity in the run game. No i-form power, counters, sweeps, something else than a zone read

I’m not sure the offense can be fixed with that oline. It looks historically awful. And that was against a pac 12 team. I see no viable rb’s right now either.

good grief. you don't understand football at all. You clearly don't know what UCLA's defense was doing or what you do against their scheme. delete your thread. it's total ignorance.

We didn’t even try to adjust the offensive game plan to UCLA. Terrible first game for Peetz.

One problem I see with the O-line is, there are 2-3 guys that looked like they gained 20-30 lbs., when you’re out of shape, you’re weaker and slower. Got their asses handed to them. Think this may be a product of O’s philosophy of taking it easy on them in fall camp.

His playcalling was awful. I am not sure what game you saw, but while we moved the ball well at times, he made literally almost no adjustments to their blitzing scheme and abandoned the run where he had no creativity.

Say what you want about Coach E, but he knew how to call runs and mix them in. Peetz is literally going to call passes too much. When your QB has no time and to counter the rush they ran maybe 1 draw?

27 first half passes not including pass plays that he got sacked on or scrambled bs 7 called runs.

A good QB could really mask those issues. Johnson was bad, in turn made everything else looked worse.
