The reality is we don't have an SEC-caliber OL and it shows every game. If Johnson would have had decent protection, we could have won the game. He was making bad passes because he was getting killed back there and wanted to try and make a play. Any QB that is getting pounded into the ground every play isn't going to be able to make many plays. We're in for a long season because this OL is pathetic!

Anyone who says max isn’t a good qb is an idiot. It’s hard to play well when you have guys in your face 9/10 plays

Christ

QB play alone didn’t cost is the game but let’s not pretend Max played well.

He made a ton of really bad passes, held on to the ball to long many times, threw an awful interception and then the blind backward toss thing (whatever that was).

This was a total team loss from coaches to players. So don’t make excuses for Max, he gets a share of the blame too.

That's on the coaches, I agree I'm sure his internal ticker got shorter as the game went on but he did make some poor throws and reads. They didn't try and establish the run which would have helped.

OL was piss poor with veterans and defense was awful again.

I wonder how much better we would have been if Dare played,

If only Scott Woodward was who we thought snd he fixed our compliance issues

I agree. This whole Brennan or Nuss would have won the game is insane. There isn’t a QB that would’ve changed the outcome and that’s the bottom line. The play was so bad everywhere else a different QB won’t save you.

Yeah Max got rattled a bit but you can’t blame him. I thought he played really well considering.

This was a total team loss. Max contributed to it.

Hopefully we get better in all aspects moving forward.

He played C+/B-, for his third start with absolutely no run game... it was a solid performance.

No he didn't play well...but how much better would he had done and how many of those mistakes would have been eliminated if the oline would have given him better protection?

Correct, but let’s not pretend that it wasn’t a bad showing by Max. He had some good throws. And a lot of bad.

Yes he did. He had a few bad reads, a few under or overthrown balls. Solid game.

His mistake was trying to get to the second level.

Didn’t jordon Jefferson throw a ball up like that and get intercepted?

All they had to do was simply throw the ball quick and behind the constant 6 man blitz UCLA brought. They refused to adjust.

When we moved the ball well it wasnt because of deep throws it was the 5 yard hitches, the quick outs and slants that got consistent yardage. More RPOs would've helps.

The play that Palmer was wide open was an RPO that would've worked to perfection had Max just thrown a good pass, but instead he threw the ball at Palmers feet. Alot of work to do for the coaches AND Max!

He wasn’t the reason we lost, but he definitely could have played better. He got no help from the OL in establishing the run or in pass blocking. Peetz didn’t do anything scheme wise to stop them from blitzing either.

Max can not get the ball down the field and it’s a major problem. It makes things very easy for defensive scheming if there’s absolutely no deep threat whatsoever.

No it’s not the only problem but it’s a problem.

Yup, they gave the 3-8 yard throw, where Max did mess up was the times he held the ball trying to get to the 2nd and 3rd option.
