Day 7 without power and humidity in house is now 75%. At what point does the house get moldy?

Wouldn’t the mold spores need to be present? Or are they just in the air?

Nola.com just had an article on this, unless you have standing water in the house, environmental humidity is not enough to cause mold inside, even in La.

Vacant houses, apartments, and commercial buildings may go all summer with similar conditions and not have a mold problem

Nola.com is wrong. I work in mold damage. Spores are always present in the environment. They can not begin to grow from humidity alone but once the humidity is absorbed into the drywall, the mold can begin to grow. For many houses the process takes weeks but we have seen it in as little as 48 hrs.

Site that has a mold growth chart

quote:

Risk begins at 65% – 72% RH but there is a long time before mold starts to grow because the wood takes a long time to absorb moisture. After you use the chart for a while, or just look at it long enough you will start to understand the time-value of humidity and how to control topical biological growth.

Taken from site. Might be worth looking at.

Damn did they really? I'm light on the mold expertise, but even I know that they're as off as off gets. And NOLA of all places, that subtropical type environment this time of year. Hell that's their nest

Mold needs 3 things

1) moisture
2) darkness
3) organic food source

Mold is present in the air. Just do not want higher concentrations inside then outside.

Water mitigation guy from my insurance company said that mold is unlikely from water stains/non accumulated water. More likely under floors or when there’s salt/contaminated water.

Oh I wasn't doubting ya. Just surprised at the assertion in the article. But like I said, I'm definitely short on mold expertise. I can say that I've had some mold issues in my own home, and it wasn't from standing water or any leak. Just severe humidity with inefficient ventilation. Started showing at the edges of wall light switch covers.

This! I had mold in my camp after a couple months of no one being there. I just sprayed all the walls down with bleach and cleaned the whole place real good.

I put out some damp-rid to try to capture some moisture.
