This has been the number one reason, according to the board, why LSU should win the game. I agree. To illustrate here is a comparison over the last three years according to 247 rankings. Obviously the number of stars doesn’t always translate but it’s a pretty good indication.

UCLA recruiting ranking last three years are 40, 33, and 31 in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
2019: zero 5 stars, one 4 star
2020: zero 5 stars, four 4 stars
2021: zero 5 stars, three 4 stars

LSU in same period rank 5, 4, and 3.
2019: three 5 stars, eleven 4 stars
2020: two 5 stars (arik left), thirteen 4 stars
2021: two 5 stars, sixteen 4 stars

They have eight 4 star guys to our forty 4 star guys.

It all comes down to coaching. Kelly has slowly improved UCLA's team, just like he did at Oregon. How else do you explain the underachieving at Georgia or the overachieving at UNC. Yes, LSU remained relevant for the past decade with amazing recruiting, but that only gets you so far. It took great coaching for 2019 to happen. Brand new coaching staff on both sides of the ball at LSU this season. This game should be good!

I understand that reasoning too.BUT again the point of QuothTheRaven the Georgia bulldogs only beat Cincinnati (a group of 5 school) 22-21 in their bowl game. Yeah some players might have sit out idk. Doesn’t really matter because bench players of Georgia should be light years above Cincinnati’s starters, in star ratings. Just to show player development and coaching goes a long ways, and I doubt UGA’s coaches didn’t care if they won or lost that game. With that being said 41-17 LSU because I think we have made the right hires and have superior COACHES and TALENT over UCLA

I will eat crow of it's a blowout. This will be the first game played with new coaches on team with very little film. Hell, the LSU/Texas game was intense and the first real test for the greatest team in CFB history. While that Oregon game in 2011 wasn't as close as the score showed, Oregon was a great team that year. Kelley was absolute shite in the NFL, but he know football at the college level. It amazes me that he didn't go SEC when he left. Tennessee might be relevant again

Kelly hasn't improved shite, his record is dismal. Don't give me that bs about that great 5-5 record last year in scrimmages. He will be gone after this year. You guys like to build him up as some really good coach. Wouldn't want him at LSU...no thanks

It's essentially a neutral site game for both teams & may lean slightly towards LSU

UCLA has a pitiful support

Yeah Kelly really hasn’t done much positive to n this latest college stint. It is a real possibility that his time as big time college coach as come and gone

UCLA will be out manned all over the field. If our players and coaches have done their jobs, the game won't be close for long

Appalachian had 65 scholarship players to Michigan’s 85.

I’m more concerned about coaching and injuries.

Until he proves otherwise, Kelly is a one-hit-wonder, similar to Rich Rod and others. His success was perfectly geared for a particular place and time, but hasn’t translated anywhere else. Just look at the results. He hasn’t done shite at UCLA and has abandoned all of his previously successful offensive philosophies to try and reinvent the wheel. I guess he just wants to prove how smart he is, but it hasn’t worked at UCLA so far.

Kelly hasn’t proven he can win at UCLA and he hasn’t significantly upgraded their talent level. So what makes him a great coach in 2021?

For the sale of comparison, Oregon’s classes were ranked 34, 30, and 12 the three seasons preceding that game with a total of nineteen 4 stars and one 5 star.

How did we compare to State and Missouri last year? I bet you would find similar results.

It’s about preparation and coaching too. You have to be ready to play.

So if Coach O is as good of a Coach as everyone says he is then this game shouldn't even be close right?

I mean the talent difference between the two teams is almost unfair.

If you’re curious:

State - rank 24, 28, 26 - one 5 star, fifteen 4 star
Mizzou - rank 37, 51, 27 - five 4 star

Obviously with terrible coaching you can lose any game. Last year we lost a dearth of talent to the draft and opt outs. Basically an entirely new team who had never played together and had no off-season together due to covid was lead by inept coaching.

If our coaching is average we should win by 10.

I know there was at least a HINT of sarcasm in your post, but you nailed it.

A top flight coach would handle this game no problem. The cookie monster scares me a bit. I support WHOEVER the coach at LSU is until it's proven they can't handle it. Orgeron was the HC of the best team in history, and he deserves credit for that. I just hope he can sustain it, and last year (even with all the unprecedented distractions) makes me seriously doubt he can.

I think we can all agree that if there’s one team in college football with something to prove right out the gate….it’s LSU! Just because you’ve never done something before doesn’t mean you’re not gonna be good at it. I believe we made the right hires and our team has a bad taste in their mouth from last year. I think we jump up early and cruise the rest of the game
