Well deserved.

Will always remember him for jumping into a pile and coming up with a fumble recovery against Georgia in 2018.

Avery kicked off against Georgia in 2018 and the returner made the mistake of running it out the endzone. Fumble, and Avery not only dives into the scrum, but comes out with the ball.
Been a huge fan of his ever since and pretty much every other returner that's made the mistake of running his kicks out the endzone has regretted it, because our kicker will de-cleat a fool.

He's a straight dog!

You should post on the board avery's dad post where sane people reside. Avery is a beast and an actually football player who happens to be a great kickoff specialist. He's a leader on this team and that's what #18 is about.

To Dabeerz, he isn't wearing 7. He's wearing the number HE earned.

the dumb tradition on #18 continues…

#7 is the real deal. Organically started with Pat Pete and TM7…. that’s how it should be.

Who?

J/K.

I've got no problem with it. As long as he set's the example in practice, is a servant leader, has the respect of the team, etc... then I will back whoever wears 18.

Unless Joe was successful on more than 85% of his plays...then objectively....you are wrong, fella.

Success for a Kick Off Specialist and a QB aren’t the same thing.

Atkins is great and I an Happy he got 18. But Joe Burrow is arguably the greatest CFB QB of all time and there are other kicknoff specialist who can get touchbacks.

Everybody here loves Avery. However they love one thing more and that is arguing!

That's how #18 started, too.

#18 is given to someone who has proven to be a leader on the team. Not necessarily the best impactful player. #7 is for the most impactful player.

There is more to being a leader than the position you line up at. This young man seems to care about more than himself. Obviously a foreign concept to you.

You should be proud. The number 18 is handed out for leadership, on and off the field. Your son appears to be an outstanding young man and I for one am glad he is a Tiger.

As dad myself, I understand, and endorse, your pride. I like him receiving the honor of being bestowed w/ #18. All we see as fans is one's performance on the field on game day. But the honor #18 goes way beyond that. For those who don't like the choice, you'll just have to toughen up and live w/ it since this is a team decision. Rightfully so, fans aren't given a vote.
