Just got power back in Old Covington - a few blocks from Acquistapace’s. Woohoo!!
Nice
Which direction from Acquistapace’s?

Saw Pike crawling all over 190 this afternoon. They are working hard. There’s a lot to do, and considering the sheer amount of snapped poles out there I’d say it’s going to be a while. Stop in at rouses or Home Depot if you need a break from the heat. Too bad the water park isn’t working on magical fairy power. The kids would love it right now.

The question is has anyone seen any linemen trucks and where.
Buddy of mine who works for FP&L said he left Monday to head to St Tammany with a bunch of crews.

Just curious, where do all those contract linemen stay? Do they bring travel trailers or do they book up hotels and make sure they get power to those?

Yeah I was pretty sure people would be able to get power back a lot faster in St Tammany than the NOLA areas. I had heard about 90% of people would have it back by Friday

Just a short while ago I was standing outside my home, looked towards the north in that direction and noticed a glow in the sky. Figured that area must have got power. I’m getting more optimistic I’ll have it tomorrow
Btw looks like Cleco still hasn’t updated their map

The past 48 hours have been a wild turn of events in the BuddyRoeaux household. I’ve help cut 5 family/friends tress downed in their yard and assisted with clean up. Nothing pales into comparison on how we helped these gentlemen from Pike electric out of FL.
.
Assisted 4 crews along the ponchitolawa river by bringing them supplies and giving them a stable platform to work on with the mud boat.
With our help, what a 2 day job was broken down into 12 hours. They have showed a different level of class and view of execution to complete task like no crew I’ve ever seen. Please give a big thank you and a round of applause to any lineman you meet. They go through a ton of adversity. 3 of the four crews had to wade through chest high water and use a 10 ft flat boat with paddles to move equipment until we seen they were needing assistance.

Not St tammany, but the hammond mall parking lot was filled with trucks. Id say at least 100, but probably more.

Some stay in motels. Most stay in big temporary camps. They'll come in and set one up in a day's time with all the amenities needed for a couple of thousand people. It's an amazing logistical feat.

Where did you hear this? I hope you're right

4 bucket trucks in the CVS parking lot at 1088 and 59 yesterday evening trying to get poles and lines up.

Hattiesburg has plenty of gas with no lines. Plenty of non ethanol just off I59 north on Highway 49.

Are you in a NextDoor group? Quickest way to find if your area have power.

I did a cost benefit analysis. The Karens kept me away.

Great post!
Most people don’t realize the kinds of bs power and telco lineman have to deal with to bring them the things they take for granted every day. Lots of times that electricity that goes to light up your pantry so you can eat your ding dongs in the middle of the night runs on lines that go through the sloppiest, hottest, wettest, most foul, bug and reptile infested wilderness you can think of, and sometimes worse.
When you get pissed when there’s a line truck blocking the road when you’re trying to pick up Jaxxyn from daycare, while they’re stretched over a drainage ditch 25 ff in the air getting blown around by the wind and baking in the sun remember that those are the easy jobs.

Yesterday afternoon the target lot in Covington/ Madisonville was filled with equipment. Minimum of 300 pieces. Equipment of all descriptions, power trucks to bull dozers. It was an amazing site. Lot filled from target all the way to the movie theaters. Probably a 1/2 mile stretch.
