I have been driving home from work on Canal for years, including the summer months, and have never seen it so deserted.

Traditionally, August is by far the slowest month of the year for tourism in the city. On account of it being hot as balls and ripe for hurricanes.

This year... I'd imagine it's all-time bad.
Friend that lives in the city told me bars/restaurants around his house looked dead slow ever since Latoya's new mandates went into effect.

Now if in October/November it's still that bad then yeah we got big problems.
Considering all the major festivals are cancelled again, I don't really see it getting better in October/November unless the vaccine and mask mandates get rolled back. I know I wouldn't be traveling somewhere for vacation with those mandates.

Who will the criminals steal from when there's nobody there but them? Nevermind, there will always be government to steal from in NOLA.

The small businesses will be destroyed. The city will be bailed out by federal marxist money. New businesses will emerge in this new "era of federal authoritarianism". These businesses will be grateful the Marxists in DC allow them to operate and will follow the rules of the new America. The feds will have new rules in place that will prevent middle America/Small business from climbing too far back up the ladder. This will be the recipe for every Democrat run shite hole that is under their control. This is called "Build Back Better". They will continue to steal races around the country for this "Fundamental Changing of America".

Without all the parties and events NO is the shittiest large city in America. It smells bad, is overrun with crime and large parts of it are a wasteland. You need those distractions to keep people from realizing that.

I lived there from 2008 to 2011. I have always described it to people as being the equivalent of what I imagine living in say Rio de Janeiro would be. It’s sort of modern, and sort the first world, but also old and backwards. Everything operates slowly. It takes you an 30 minutes just to check into a hotel. The public services are a labyrinth of bureaucracy and corruption.

I drive for Lyft on the weekends and there was a huge drop in riders since the proof of vaccination mandate. The few tourists I picked up were pretty pissed about the mandate.

You hear a lot of people saying, "well, it's no big deal really." I'm vaccinated. I don't really care too much about giving my "health information." I've been to a few places since then, though, and there's just something really off-putting about this 'show your papers' deal that now I feel is causing me pause anytime I think I might stop in to get a beer or a bite to eat anywhere in Orleans. There's just a real creepy vibe about it all that I find myself thinking, I'm not really in the mood to have to do this right now, or let's go eat somewhere in Jefferson instead.

Things were starting to hop again in early August around Satchmo Fest, but it does seem like the recent round of restrictions have slowed things down considerably. I know that in the broader world (not so much on this board) there are a range of opinions on what to do in response to COVID, but it does bother me that Cantrell just has to be on the more restrictive side of whatever is being discussed. We now have vaccines. Encourage people to take them. Allow private businesses to set their own rules and allow individuals to make to their own riske-based decisions. If you're unvaxxed or immunocompromised or whatever, your calculus may be different, and that is fine.
