I can attest that acceptance into the tiger band fraternity in 1974 involved lots of alcohol, sex acts, sheep, extreme sleep deprivation, prostitutes, drugs, public nudity (remember streaking was a big thing back then), partial drowing, and I’m sure I’m forgetting a few.

Why do we have 36 mellophones?
I mean..they are pretty cool

Is the mellophone section anthem still “it’s raining men?”

That ratio of Tuba players to other instruments is perfect.

Will they now make the trip to Pasadena?

And not a one of them going to Los Angeles to play. Ridiculous.

"shite-can the Color Guard and add Brass."
Nope. shite-Can ALL the Pics and Clarinets (Totally wasted instruments on a football field) and add a lot more Brass.
Tiger Band is way too small and weak for a massive 102,000 seat stadium!

Will the full band be in the stadium this season or half band like last year? Hopefully they will be able to travel again this season.

My son will be one of the trumpets this year. Proud of that boy, he’s thrilled. And now that I’ve got a connection, I’ll see if I can get them to play Neck again.

It's 250 in 4 payments now.
In the late 90's we got $640 in one lump sum in the fall semester. One of my buddies went to the bursar and asked for his in 5 dollar bills.

You obviously never played a musical instrument or been in an assemble band.

When do they practice marching down the hill?
This evening at 6:00.
My son is one of the 30 tuba players.

My bad, man! Never thought I'd get slammed so hard on a band thread!

I assume he meant Wickes as in the legend Frank Wickes.

Mellophones are loud as frick!
Shut your whore mouth!
Serious question but backstory first:
I was a talented trumpeter in middle school and high school making the all-parish bands in 8th and 9th grade. But by 10th grade at my high school you had to be in marching band in Fall to make an A in Band. I was a football player so I had to give up band.
That said, I'm a dumb jock who still has much appreciation/respect for marching bands(to prove I pay attention: The Jacksonville State halftime performance in 2016 was the best I've ever seen in Tiger Stadium).
So my possibly stupid question is: with the mellophone being less common in high school bands, how does a big college marching band decide who's moves from trumpet to mellophone? Is it an easy transition?
I'll hang up and listen.
