Teal Season

Saw a post on facebook that teal are starting to show in the rice fields. I haven't seen any yet in Terrebonne/Lafourche Parishes. Anyone else see any? Less than a month away. Seems like duck season just ended. From what i've read regarding the prairie breeding grounds, i don't think we should expect an overwhelming amount of teal.

Went ride on the lease I have in Chauvin on Saturday. Saw some good numbers this early. Was really happy to see what I saw.

Seems like getting teal down isn't a big problem, its getting the big ducks down later in the season. At least in my opinion of the past few years.

Damn - encouraging to hear.

Yea, teal should be fine from what I saw. Mallards should be ok. Mallards just might be older/smarter ducks.
If you think the Ms flyway looks bad then be glad you aren’t farther west. Central looks like hot garbage. Then again I think I saw where most states didn’t do a survey, and they are going off of the amounts of rains they got this year. I could be wrong about that.

I read an article just a few days ago about the drought and lack of snow in the breeding grounds. Worst in years. Last couple of years there were much less potholes due to lack of rain but this year it’s way worse.
They predicted very low duck numbers and may have to go to a 45 day season next year.

One can only dream. Personally I'd be more than willing to endure a handful of 3/30 years to cut the number of hunters down some

I’ll be headed to Toledo Bend to scout for the elusive cinnamon teal. Will report back.

Hadn’t seen any yet in Pointe Coupee parish but the full moon is on the 22nd, they’ll be passing over the house after that based on previous years. I need to get my stamp and HIP soon, season opener is sneaking up on me. Good luck to all going next month.

This ^^
I'm hearing of some showing here and there but as the moon brightens this week toward the weekend, you'll really start to get good reports.
Yes the breeding grounds are super dry this year. There are still lots of ducks, most well above long term averages, but when it's particularly wet we see these bumper crops of young blue wings. Likely not near as many young of the year birds this season but I'm sure they'll still eat up spinners as usual. Gettin ready!

Try finding steel shot right now; or for that matter any shells. It's gonna be brutal to locate ammo.

steel shot
Very hard to find.
Going to have tons of ducks this year since there are no shells to buy.

According to who. DU and Delta, Fish and Wildlife?
I don't believe those numbers at all
I don't think the ducks are getting short stopped. I think the numbers are inflated and we don't have as many ducks

Wal-Mart in New Roads has 100 pack federal speed shok steel for $45 on the shelf. BB & #2 only.

That boat has sailed, too much money in duck hunting for the feds to go 3/30 ever again.
The conspiracy theorist in me also says the counts are being inflated.

Stocked up in the off season sitting on about 5-6 cases right now.

That’s a pretty good deal. Bought a case of that 3” 1-1/4 4shot for $160 with free shipping
