BATON ROUGE - DOTD wants feedback on four design options for the span of I-10 that will eventually cross over City Park Lake.

The design comes as the state works on its huge redevelopment of I-10 from the west side of the river to the I-10/12 Split, the largest interstate rehab in the Greater Baton Rouge area, possibly since the interstate was built. It will add a lane in each direction and include new spans to replace the older I-10 road deck from just before Washington Street to the Perkins Road ramps.

Hired DOTD consultants called the bridge the "signature element" of the project.

Monuments will be constructed on the bridge with a pelican, one of Louisiana's signature icons.

DOTD asked for public input on four design options for the span. Click HERE to take the survey until August 31, 2021.

The options:

I think option C might be my favorite, but I like all of them better than what's there now.

They will all look the same from the perspective of a driver on I-10:

There are also options for the tower details

It doesn’t matter which you pick, it will be covered in graffiti, litter, and weeds within months.

I think this looks the best from the sides. Probably the quietest as well.

Option C for both the bridge and the tower design looks the best.

Do I give a frick about what the architecture looks like as long as it is functional and not a death trap?

The downtown library got cute with their design. Look at how well that worked out for us.

They could incorporate PGT Beauregard and R E Lee into the design.

Whoa, wait up there. Why do we need a bridge? Pile some dirt across there and put a couple of big box culverts and call it a day. Dirt is lot cheaper than concrete and has lower maintenance costs. Plus artists would have a difficult time painting graffiti on dirt covered by grass.
