Texas and Texas A&M both raise the academic profile of the SEC, and I would expect both to have at least equal research budgets as Kansas

In a similar thread it was claimed that the State Legislature of Kansas passed a law to the effect that Kansas & Kansas St. were tied at the hip & neither could move without the other.

Whether this is true or not, I do think Kansas eventually ends up in the Big Ten.

Because he didn’t say it was imminent. Another person reported that he said it was imminent. “I am hearing from some people I consider to be pretty reliable that this thing is imminent… I’m not ready to say it for sure, but there’s some smoke coming out of Lawrence right now.”

He’s been on target with quite a bit of KU news including the Les firing, the Jeff Long firing, the Travis Goff hiring, and the Lance Leopoldo hiring. He’s pretty well-connected to the upper levels of the athletic office. All-in-all, it sounds like KU is at least in somewhat serious conversations about moving.

There is nothing in Kansas legislature tying KU to K-State in terms of staying in the same conference. I think KU is 2nd or 3rd in the conference in terms of academic grants, and competitive with some Big Ten schools in that regard. No one came close to Texas, though.

SEC:

A&M
Missouri
Oklahoma
Texas

Big Ten:

Rutgers
Maryland
Kansas

I know the SEC doesn't care about basketball...and Texas is mediocre at football and basketball right now losing in the 1st round.

But the Big10 would be the premiere Conference in basketball with adding Kansas if they aren't already.

If you’re keeping track, so far we have following “reports”

*Kansas to Big 10 is imminent
*West Virginia in official talks w/ACC
* Louisiana Tech & Louisiana to Big 12
* FSU & Clemson officials contacted SEC about joining league
* AAC will raid Big 12

I’m sure there were others

If two schools want to coordinate on research, they will ignore the jocks and work together on a school to school capacity.

Well, Louisiana curb stomped Iowa State last year to claim the Big 12 Regular Season Championship. So not that far fetched.

You forgot Nebraska.

I did didn't I? But I don't think I'm going to edit. Forgetting Nebraska feels right. It would feel dishonest to go back and add them to my list.

Missouri, Texas and Texas A&M are all AAU schools.

The Big 10 is an athletic conference that absorbed 1 Brand name school in Nebraska and other programs located in huge media markets.

They are not going to take Kansas. The Big schools already make 50 million per team. Any school they add would have to have tremendous value and not dilute the payout. Kansas ain't it.

Good Academic school with a competitive basketball program and another market for cable tv buyers for the big ten network.

Football is all time worst. I suppose they could throw major money into the program and build Rome. Kansas is pretty decent recruiting grounds for juco. HS football not terrible with Oklahoma to the south and KC and Missouri to recruit.

I don't trust their FB program to ever be good unless they bring the Fat Man back. Mangino is proof that they are one good coach away though.

You don't have to sell me their football is bad. I am just explaining the positives. The cable subscribers go up, the basketball is going to be super competitive and the academia is above average.

Sure. But the point is the Big 10 schools all pool their resources together when going for research grants. All of them aside from NU being AAU makes a big difference when getting the research money.
