Fair enough. I’m mostly just laying out my case for not seeing this on opening weekend. I’ll wait for a few reviews to come out from some key people I trust, and if the movie defies my expectations, I’ll go see it then.

The question I have is why would you prefer they basically do a remake? Murray, Ackroyd and Hudson are old, Ramis is gone. Who would you cast as younger actors to make a new schlubby guy Ghostbusters? I think something like that would suck. It's a generational franchise at this point, so a legacy film is appropriate. The trailers I've watched, it looks like a fun movie. Erase your expectations and go see it.

I'd prefer Hollywood not focus its resources on old franchises and tried new material. But I'm also willing to be entertained, even if the movie is part of franchise cash grab. I'm not completely dismissing this movie, yet. But I am concerned that it may be showing similar patterns seen in other film franchises brought back from the dead (e.g. Kelvin "Timeline" Trek), namely studio execs thinking that the tone/comedy of the 1980s wouldn't play today* so we've got to make it more appealing by adopting the tone of contemporary franchises that are popular today.

*Who's to say it wouldn't? Pop in the Ghostbusters DVD for a group of ten 13 year olds, and I'd be willing to bet at least 6-7 of them would find it genuinely entertaining.

Lol, that's never gonna happen. I would like to see Hollywood use original source material for diverse super heroes instead of shite like race swapping Superman into a gay midget black Eskimo but that's not happening either.

You lost me on the Trek thing, I've never liked that franchise. Hollywood will always try to bleed a franchise dry before taking risks on something new. Marvel is going to get beaten like a dead racehorse for the next twenty years. At least there's some meat left on those bones yet.

4chan "spoliers".... some of it is already known:

The film follows the grandchildren of Egon Spengler as they move to Summerville out of nesseccity.

Grooberman turns out to be the only living descendent of Ivo Shandor. He is lured to the town by the the childrens headmaster who is leader of the cult of Gozer. The entire town are followers of the cult.

The cults temple is situated in the mines under the town.

Callie grows close to Phoebes teacher Mr Grooberson. They will become the cults new Gatekeeper and Keymaster

Egon moved to the town in the 90s after the collapse of the Ghostbusters. When the temple of Gozer was destroyed in 84, the gateway to the Gozer dimension was only closed. The energy generated from the events still pulses in the Selenium mines under Summerville. Egon moved there to wait for a re emergence of the gateway but he died. He left instructions and equipment for his family in the old farmhouse as well as a way to contact the remaining Ghostbusters should anything happen

This checks out with earlier reddit spoilers
- Paul Rudds Character is called Jason Grooberson and he is mysteriously headhunted by Summervilles High School principal to join the faculty
- The Town of Summersville hides a dark secret, they are all in fact members of the cult of Gozer
- In 1984 when the doorway to the Gozer dimension was sealed the energy from the porthole was expelled from New York and latched itself onto the selenium mines in Summersville, where the stone to build Spook Central came from
- There is a temple in the Shandor mines that the cult uses for rituals
- It is revealed that Egon knew that the Cult of Gozer lived on and went to the town to wait for his return
- In the subsequent years he passed away but left instruction to his family to continue his vigil. And should Gozer return he left contacts for the other Ghostbusters too
- Janine and Winston are happily married as are Peter and Dana.
- Gooberson is revealed to be the only living descendent of Ivo Shandor who the cult have lured here to act as the vessel for Shandors Spirit.
- Ray has been living alone in his occult book store keeping watch on the local paranormal activity in New York. It has been quiet for decades but he always holds onto the hope that one day he may be useful again.
- Egons Farmhouse is filled with miniature stay Puft Marshmallow men
- There are 3 Terror dogs in the film, The Gatekeeper, The Keymaster and The Custodian which are made up of two of the cult members plus Ivo Shandor (who is played by JK Simmons)
- Gozers form appears at the Firehouse as a giant Terror dog.
- Phoebe, Trevor, Ray, Peter, Winston and Dana all suit up for the final battle
- Gozer is finally defeated because the ghostbusters have a member on the other side.
- Egon becomes the Guardian of the portal to the gozer dimension

people that say this typically shite all over new stuff that people come up with, just because it is "too outlandish", or "I have to shut my brain off for it?".

I'm not typical people. My favorite movie of of 2015 was Ex Machina, 2016 was Hell Or Highwater, and my favorite movie of 2019 was Ford v. Ferrari. I fully support newer, more creative movies not hitched to already established franchises.

Even funnier when you realize she guests on Young Sheldon as his high IQ female nemesis.

Maybe Murray's cameo will be a bust.

However, they took less than 5 minutes of Vader in Rogue 1 and made them the most memorable scenes of the movie.

This could be a spoiler. Someone spliced screenshots of both trailers together to depict a possible plot line:

Imgur

In the second trailer, there’s a shot of an old man hand holding a PKE meter. This guy thinks it’s Egon being warned of a force coming and this is when he dies. He stops whatever is coming at the cost of his life.

Come to think of it, that would be a pretty cool opening to the theme song. A close up of someone playing Egon with his head out of the shot, running around the house and then comes face to face with the ghost with the shot shot from his feet looking up at a terror dog apparition. The terror dog lunges toward Egon with a load roar that fades into the theme song. Very similar to the original opening with the librarian in the ‘84 movie.

Reading these leaks made me smile but I instantly regret it.

Should have had the willpower to look past your post.

I remember checking early message boards in the late 90s regarding rumors of a GB3.

GB 2016 pissed me off.

GB 2021 has been a long time coming and so far it looks great!
