Was stationed there from 02-05. Nice area, but the people around Ft. Campbell were trashy. It’s probably like that around any military installation.

I get a kick out of people who say “as soon as the kids graduate HS, I’m leaving!” as if Louisiana high schools are any reason to stay.

Probably more of the friends and support system you need when you have kids than the schools themselves.

The only difference between Louisiana and Mississippi is New Orleans.

Heh? Clarksville is a solid 5 hour drive from Gatlinburg.

He may have got it confused with Sevierville?

I have always considered Clarksville one of the ugliest places in Tennessee.

Chattanooga, Knoxville, Tri-Cities and the Cumberland Plateau are much nicer.

My son is. Stationed at Campbell. Clarksville is a nice area. Land Between the Lakes is legit as well.

There is a really good barbecue joint in Clarksville on the main drag. Forget what it’s called.

Or not wanting to uproot their kids in the middle of high school. Which, I can tell you as a kid that was uprooted and moved across the country in the middle of my junior year, sucks.

Military town. Very affordable. Probably a little rougher than most areas of Middle TN but of course a step up from Louisiana.

I just moved away from there. Not a bad little town. It has all the amenities you need plus a small nice downtown area. As people mentioned, LBL is great. It's also not a far drive from a number of cities if you want to leave for the day.

My favorite "military" town so far.

I live in Clarksville. It’s great. It’s growing steadily and the city is geographically large so it can accommodate growth, unlike Baton Rouge after Katrina.

Schools are great and there’s plenty of things to do, plus you’re 45 minutes from all Nashville has to offer. I recommend it.

That’s the Martin / Union City area.

Mission BBQ? That's my personal favorite.

Anyone live in this area. I'm visiting and it's really nice. Louisiana really is in bad shape.

I honestly mean no offense, but just how shitty is Louisiana? Because Clarksville is by no means "really nice."

Martin isn’t all that bad. Union City does suck. Same with Jackson.

Clarksville is cool. Kentucky is right there. 45 minutes from Nashville.

Mississippi actually ranks better than LA in many categories and they do have the casinos and beaches.

Back in '74 when Vietnam was winding down and true heroes were coming back a lot of the people were mean. I guess it had a lot to do with the attitude of the country back then where hippies and young college types thought of military as baby killers and murderers. But the closer businesses to the post were welcoming.
All in all, nice memories and great area!

I have great memories of Baton Rouge, as a teenager. I left Louisiana in 1962. I joined the Navy. I married a young lady from Tennessee so I made TN my home.
When I visited Louisiana, (Baton Rouge) in the 90s, I was surprised at the change.
I have no interest in living there again.
