I like LSU and A&M in the same pod.
This is all about throwing A&M a bone since they're the one having a nervous breakdown over Texas coming in.

quote:the two teams in the 2019 FCS national championship game each played 16 games. And they both got a first-round bye, so FCS teams could actually play 17 games.
No way the schools would agree to a 17 game season. (12 game reg season, 2 game SEC playoff, and 3 game CFP assuming we go to 8 teams).
The "number of games" complaint is always a cop out. Only the few teams that make their conference championship game and then advance in the national playoff would play that many.

I like these pods. I think they want to keep building that LSU and A&M rivalry. IT is finally getting good. The pod system takes away all the east/west advantages we currently see. Like LSU having to play Florida, Auburn and Alabama every year. There could be a chance that LSU would face Alabama in the title game. I like it.

100% chance in season 1 we see a schedule of:
Miss St
OM
A&M
OU
Texas
Bama
Auburn
UF
UGA

"Pods" sounds ridiculous (nomenclature only - concept is not bad).

I do too. It’s always been a little sad that LSU hasn’t had a true traditional rival. I think A&M is already on their way to being one, this would cement that. And after a few years of arse-whippins, they’d wish they had Texas to play against instead.

I like it! Would definitely make it a more even playing field just like baseball and we will have a lot more different teams playing for the SEC Championship every year.

And no way schools want sit at home while another team with the same conf records go to Atlanta. How do you avoid that? It’s inevitable in this pod system to get this scenario to play out.
ETA and I’d suggest dropping a non-conf game. Things are trending that way anyway. Soon you’ll only be playing power conference teams.

LSU would be the favorite to win that pod most years. A&M would be the main completion .

Yes

Adding Arky to our pod would make our pod too easy for us. I’m guessing that’s why A&M got added.

Historically we hate Ole Miss and played MSU like 100+ times so this makes sense. I like the idea

Likely both of these won't happen. If the SEC goes 16 teams the PAC, B1G, and ACC will too. It will remain a four team playoff then with the four power conference champs playing. The Conference championship games would be the like the preliminary round, so like an 8 team playoff but not in the way you're thinking.

Makes more sense for TAMU and Arkansas to switch. That also isn't trying to make it easier for LSU because you're 100% going to play AT LEAST 2 of Oklahoma, Florida, Bama, UGA, and Texas every year.
And the only reason they didn't pair Bama/Auburn with UF/UGA is because of Bama/Tenn "tradition", and not making one pod super easy and one super hard.

I would have the east and west like today
East teams; ole miss, miss st, lsu, arky, missourI, okla, texas and aggies
West; bama, auburn, tenner, georgia, south carolina, vandy , kentucky and florida

quote:Because a "pod" is not a division. Two pods make a division, and you would rotate those every year.
Why did someone decide on the term "pod"? I guess four four-team "divisions" sounds too much like NFL.
One year, the two divisions would be
Division 1: Pod A + Pod B
Division 2: Pod C + Pod D
The next year the divisions would be
Division 1: Pod A + Pod C
Division 2: Pod B + Pod D
The it would be
Division 1: Pod A + Pod D
Division 2: Pod B + Pod C
To make matters more confusing, I've seen it posted elsewhere each team would have a permanent opponent in the other 3 pods, and the years that you are not playing that pod, you will still play your permanent opponent from that pod. They have to do this so that games like Auburn and UGA still get played if they are in different pods (can't put the five teams involved in the four sacred cow games--Bama/UT, Auburn/UGA, Bama/Auburn, UGA/UF--in the same pod, as the limit is 4). So, you'd play your seven divisional games (the 3 teams in your pod, a four teams in the pod assigned as your divisional opponents that year) plus your two permanent opponents in the other pod for a total of 9 games.
This is way too confusing for the public, and still creates the potential for unbalanced divisions. So, if we do go to 16, they should just get rid of divisions, have 3 permanent opponents, and rotate the other 12, six one year, and six the next, with the two teams with the best record meeting in the conference championship game.

Keep it East vs. West and add OU and TX to West and move Bama and Auburn to East
This doesn’t work as it would make uneven divisions. Just move the Gumps so they can continue to play Tennessee and their permanent cross conference opponent can be AU.
This still leaves the west heavily weighted. You have aTm, LSU, AU, OU, and the Sips battling while the Gumps have UF and UGA.
