So we all know LaToya is going to go in dry tomorrow. She's never gotten over the unjustified criticism the city received for not canceling Mardi Gras in 2020. This despite the fact that the city did speak with the CDC and the CDC said the event could go on as planned. Ever since then she's had it out for any major event in the city.

We all knew Mardi Gras 2021 was doomed by March/April of 2020. But now Mardi Gras 2022 is starting to look just as doomed. At this point I think the parades get canceled again, or are at least forced to scale way back.

From what I heard some Krewes did have informal talks with Jefferson Parish about having Mardi Gras 2021 parades there. They didn't get far because of typical Louisiana politics. The rumor I heard was that Jefferson Parish wanted a 2 year commitment from the Krewes. I can understand the Krewes not wanting that as the members pay good money to ride and the out of town members especially are coming to parade in New Orleans, not Metairie.

With that said, in hindsight, did the Krewes make a mistake in not going to Jefferson for a 2 year commitment? With LaToya in control in Orleans has there been any talk by the Krewes on back up plans in case she goes all authoritarian on Mardi Gras again?

If I was the organizer of Jazz Fest or French Quarter Fest I would try to get a deal and move the events to Baton Rouge or Gulfport/Biloxi just in case. I'm concerned that if Jazz Fest and French Quarter Fest get canceled again that they might not have the finances to come back.

I can see no way that Latoya can manage to organize the next Mardi Gras because she is incompetent and has zero imagination. It’s just easier to say “no” so that’s what she’ll do.

If latoya were to cancel Mardi Gras again (she won’t), I think a lot of krewes would have serious discussions about permanently leaving Orleans and riding in Jefferson until there’s a new mayor at minimum.

Latoya is dumb but I don’t think she’ll take the battle. She’s surprised me before though.

A month ago I would've agreed with you. I don't know now. I don't like the trend we're seeing right now with the Delta variant and Democrat controlled cities trying to reintroduce mask requirements and capacity restrictions at large events.

Plus the city has LaToya, enough said.

I don't think she cares. She looks at the Jefferson threat as a bluff and she takes pride in thinking that she called their bluff in 2021.

If I'm involved in a Krewe my concern is that she'll do what she did this year. She won't cancel Mardi Gras with time to spare to possibly move it to Jefferson. She'll cancel it just a few weeks in advance. If I'm involved in a Krewe, especially as a Krewe Captain, I'm not sure if I want to take that risk.

Jefferson is screwed as well. We ride in many parades there every year. Severn construction will not be finished. Staging area at Clearview compromised. Last time parades staged on Bonnabel, they left horse shite out there and neighbors pissed. Jefferson parades normal route is not looking good. I rode in Harahan for Memorial Day. They may look in that direction.

Veterans is that bad at this point? What plans do the Jefferson Krewes have for 2022?

I agree that Harahan would work as well.

I would consider Biloxi/Gulfport as well. I would say the Northshore though I don't think the area has a space big enough to accommodate either event.

We are all in a giant pissing contest right now.

By not getting the damn vaccine, y'all are giving Latoya the power to do shite like this. The numbers are going up... and we all know we will still be fine... but it just gives her the power to do this.

Think about the lives saved from the shootings deaths, about 24 people will live to see 2023.

Not sure what's funny. Sure it wouldn't be on the same scale but they have to do something to survive.
