This is a weird one for me. He is a top outside CB and would help upgrade him. But, apparently the issue is he's upset with a contract he signed roughly 2 years ago. He claims he's not paid enough in guarantees (he's the 5th or 6th highest paid CB). The Saints would still need to move some money around to make his current contract fit; and they would need to figure out a way to rework it so he can get more guarantees. I doubt he does this for less money, so at some point the team would have to take a major hit to make it work for this year.
This would be a hard pass because of what it would cost in assets (most likely multiple 1st, or a key player and picks) and the future strain on the cap.
They still have to lock up Latt (unless Howard makes him expendable), M Williams, Armstead (or another Tackle). Plus the unknown for the fans about whether or not they are going to change to a Cover 3.

Maybe the Saints floated the rumor to give them some leverage in negotiations with Lattimore on his extension.

Probably less than what our crazy asses were offering to jump into the top 10 of the draft

He's pissed cause he's not even the highest paid CB on the Dolphins. Howard is light years better than Byron Jones and he should be requesting a trade.
As far as Lattimore, I can see us tagging him next year and seeing how Adebo plays out for a year. Unfortunately, I see Marcus Williams playing elsewhere cause he will price himself out here but sign CGJ to a nice contract. Armstead is gone after this year hence Ram getting paid LT money.

Pass for me.
He would be an upgrade over Lattimore but the Saints don't need any more players bitching about a pay raise every year.
The Saints still have to pay:
1. Marcus Williams
2. A CB (Lattimore, someone traded for, FA signing, etc.)
3. Winston, Tre'Quan Smith and/or Deonte Harris if they play well this year
4. A Tackle (Armstead is a FA after this year but is owed dead money from '22 - '24)
5. Brees' dead money
6. Gardner Johnson and Erik McCoy at the end of next season

Did you tell them to keep dreaming...

I don't think I'd trade for howard.
He is going to want to be the highest paid corner, while also having to pay lattimore the same.
