No you idiot. He’s talking about mental illness as a result of the brain trauma from football
He suffered from depression before he played, dumb frick!
Treat clinical depression, do you? Please tell us more about depression brought about by trauma to the brain.

That guy has struggled with depression for a long time. Even before coming to LSU. This isn’t from brain trauma.
Did he just start playing football when he arrived at LSU? Thinking early football related head trauma may have had an impact is an easy conclusion to reach. But it doesn't mean it is the case, just seems like a possibility it may have been the catalyst and a higher possibility, maybe even a probability, it contributed.

This is real everyday life for him.
But regardless of whether football trauma was the catalyst, this is vey true and should not be overlooked. This is a real struggle for so many people and this pandemic has exacerbated it for a great many people.

Have you ever listened to him when he is on with TBob?
I have not, it is probably heart wrenching to hear, though.

I forwarded this thread to my friend in the AD.
They have a few counselors on staff. Hopefully someone will assist if they have not already…

He was sexually molested and physically abused as a very young kid and hasnt been right since. Trying to tie this in anyway to football is so strange

Walrus,
Is there anything others can do that will/could help? I would love to do something productive for Joe but seems like we are just helpless to do anything but watch, hope and pray.

I didn't know this. I assume the guy who posted about not letting his kids play football didn't either.

With some of the high profile cases related to CTE in the last decade it seems like this would inevitably be a thought for some. And while I don't see this as typically being the reason for these things, I would assume CTE does not help the situation.
And FTR, my youngest son played football in high school, my oldest had no interest. Both relatively normal adults. If one of them has any issues with depression, it would be the one who did not play football.

You can't force them to seek that help, although certainly a supportive family member or friend may be able to nudge them in that direction.
But ultimately it's up to the person himself.

Ah, come on. That's an ignorant statement. Plenty of FB players that do not have this same issue.
