If you read his daily tweets, this is correct.

I suffer from debilitating mental illness like Joe. At some point, every possible resource for help isn’t enough, it has to come from within. It is incredibly difficult to make that push. Right now it seems as if he needs to be in a safe place where he can’t harm himself and to become somewhat stable.

But it comes back and never leaves, I’ve been hospitalized 3 times. You can learn every possible technique for self help, try all sorts of medication. and have every tool for support around but true healing is extremely difficult. There are good days and bad days, but the next crisis is always on the horizon.

Listen to his stuff online. You'll find it here: Joe Barksdale - Musician | Linktree

He writes some damned good stuff.

I used to write and record a little bit many years ago. The best songs and ideas always came when I was feeling lowest. I imagine it may be similar for him. He's certainly much more talented than I was or ever will be. I'll definitely be making a purchase in the music department this evening. It's the first I've heard in years that I'd actually purchase and play the album end to end.

Praying for him here as well.

Almost... It's more like he needs help and he knows he needs help, but he doesn't know how to accept it. I've been there. It's always easier to give help than to receive help. This is particularly true when you suffer depression. You get so down that you don't believe you deserve help from anyone else and that you're just a burden to them. It's hard to see your own worth to others when you're down in that hole alone.

frick you, you self-centered a-hole. no one gives a shite what you do but instead, since you are so self-centered you have to announce this to the board. This thread is not about you or your kids or how you feel about football. prick

Has anyone reported the tweets or called the authorities? I don’t have a Twitter and don’t usually condone getting in people’s business, but it seems like he needs to talk with someone badly. Hope he can get some help.

I don’t know if “reporting” the tweets is how it’s done- just hoping someone has reached out to him

This site usually has a lot of negativity but truly has had its moments of making the world better. I don't have twitter but it would be great if we could generate a bunch of tiger fans to show some support for him on twitter. Obviously, he need professional help regardless, but I'd love to see that.

Unfortunately that won’t work. He isn’t coming from a rational place where love will help. He needs medical attention and hopefully someone can get him to it soon

Guessing by your comment they aren't athletic enough to play football. Let them be a beater or blower in the band.

Dr. CTE, perhaps this is not the time for your diagnosis, right?

I hate for anyone to have to deal with this and sincerely hopes he’s able to persevere in his struggle and improve his mental health.

But please stop with the speculation about football: plenty of people (myself included) have struggled with depression/anxiety/etc without playing serious collision football.

You don’t “fix” true clinical depression and related mental health issues. You try to mitigate it through a combination of different means: cognitive-behavioral therapy, exercise, medication, meditation, prayer, art, family… everyone is different and responds to different approaches.

I didn’t diagnose him, I simply stated that when football players begin to show symptoms consistent with CTE it has that feel. If you’re wondering, the symptoms are mood swings, depression, dementia, impulse control issues and suicidal thoughts. Additionally, since the risk of CTE in football players doubles each five years they play, he’s at a far greater risk for those symptoms than others, and would have been even during his LSU days.

Not diagnosing…just saying it does seem plausible and he should seek help, whatever he has.
