Thank the number one answer is Saban and it isn’t even close.

Skip's hire is close to Saban's. Only difference is one was in Baseball, other was in Football.

How is skip not on your list?

Because his list was just an attempt to troll by putting the obvious #1, Nick Saban, at #3.

You can put Skip at #1, but only if you equalize all of the sports. That list is:

1. Skip
2. Pat Henry
3. Saban

That is a different list from the list of best hires. That list is:

1. Saban
2. Paul Dietzel
3. Pat Henry/Skip

Aranda has accomplished less as a head coach so far than Bo Pelini, and both have a NC as a DC. So I'll withhold judgment on Dave until he actually proves himself.

This has literally NOTHING to do with what he accomplished at LSU Sure he may fail... But it wouldn't be the first time a coordinator failed at being a head coach. Some guys just aren't the CEO type. And I feel as if Aranda is not. Doesn't seem like the guy who would really enjoy acting like a car salesman to get all the best kids.

But either way he was an incredible defensive coordinator for LSU and was a major part of us winning the National Championship. No defense in the country was playing better than ours the last 4-5 weeks of the season.

Damn, Coach O's camp must be getting kinda nervous. The propaganda shills usually aren't this straight forward.

InB4 nega-tiger, Tom Herman admirer, and any of your other talking points that you copy and paste all over this website.

Its clearly Bertman on top.

He took the program to premiere status for 2 decades.

Saban gets some consideration but the way he left LSU and lack of longevity separates Bertman from him.

No contest, Skip Bertman is the best hire, ever! Considering where LSU baseball was prior to his arrival (students going to Alex Box to study during games because it was quiet, single-digit SEC Championships). He built not only a dynasty (5 Nat'l Championships in 10 years) but built the fan base (baseball tailgating for weekend series almost rivaled football games at the height of his program), upgraded Alex Box, NCAA record-setting attendance year after year, the reputation LSU baseball now holds is all because of Skip!

No not what they did when they got to LSU but who had the best hype and resume when they were hired

This is a dumb qualifier- if you couldn't recall Bo, I guess you don't recall that hyped up Southern Miss coach either.

Saban wasnt a top 5 resume hire…. His resume highlights consisted of going 6-6 (beat Ohio state) and having a 9 win season (beat a down Ohio 6-6, notre dame 5-7 and Michigan 10-2) before leaving.

His next best season was 7 wins and the rest were 6 loss seasons. He rebuilt the program and I’m not trying to undersell that but the point I’m making is; lots of small programs are built up

but that doesn’t mean the people like:
Gary Patterson, tom herman, Chris Peterson, etc. are great. Saban was just of a hopeful hire as these guys, he just panned out.

Hell, Les Miles had a similar rebuild at Oklahoma state as Saban did at Michigan state.

However MSU was NoT a football school…

Nobody knew who boise state was before Chris Petersen, maybe Dan Hawkins, and the fact that Boise state got turned around doesn’t make them Saban Caliber coaches…

The best coaching hire ever at LSU was Press Maravich.
By hiring him, LSU got the greatest college basketball player and show of all time. I wouldn't trade those 4 years of watching Pete play for any championship in basketball. LSU fans at that time were truly blessed.
