He said someone who had the most hype and more accomplishments before coming to LSU. Saban wasn’t hyped and hadn’t accomplished anything before he came to lsu.

I like track and field. As AD, I would never let my best coach on campus leave for a rival. Invest some money into it and keep winning

O came into a really mediocre team
Coach O has had his ups and downs since he took over. I think these next few years will really define his career. Will he be regarded as one of the top level coaches, or more of a one hit wonder. Time will tell.

If the defense doesn't get fixed this coming season, I don't think O will around to coach the next few years.
He gets a pass in my book for the incredible amount of attrition and opt outs last season, but that kinda shitty D can't ever happen again.

I'm not considering Aranda as a head coach, he has to prove himself there. I'm looking at what he did as DC and I believe he was a big upgrade over Chavis. I agree Brady was a great hire and made a big difference, but he also had an outstanding QB and receiver group to coach. With only 2019 as a basis of judgment, it's hard for me to say he is among the greatest coaches in LSU history.

Honestly, Canada was really hyped when hire though not a head coaching hire.
Manieri was also pretty hyped and had decent Resume at ND
Lot of hype around Wade too.
Yvette Girouard is probably #2 when it comes to Resume of the people I have any real knowledge of. Think it was a pretty hyped hire relative to the sport for LSU at the time. I am from and lived in Lafayette at the time (still do) and it was a big new item there for sure.

Using the OP's criteria Mulkey is the clear answer and there isn't a close second. How many other times has LSU hired at 3x national championship winning coach and HOF member?
Agreed that he is likely #2. He was the DC of Miami's "no-name defense" in the early 70's and the year before LSU hired him was DC for the Dolphins' team that reached the Super Bowl (with LSU's David Woodley at QB). He was a know commodity with a fairly impressive resume.
Agreed. It is COMPLETELY revisionist history to say LSU fans were unanimously thrilled about the Saban hire. Most LSU fans knew of him for two games: (1) The 95 Independence where he was the MSU coach who got their arse kicked and (2) MSU's surprise upset of #1 Ohio St. in the middle of an otherwise average year for MSU. I completely agree that Hallman came in with more excitement. There were more than a few LSU fans who thought it was ridiculous to give an average HC at MSU $1,000,000 per year to become LSU's HC

Well as far as Saban you have a point about what he did before being hired here. However MSU was NoT a football school…. He came where football is king and started what we see today…..
