Prior to the 2019-2020 group the team O inherited set the record for most players drafted from LSU over a 2 year period. O inherited an outstanding roster that’s just a fact.

1. Saban cause football pulls the train. If LSU doesn’t hire Nick 1958 would be our only NC

If the question is best coaching hires, then yes. But the OP said the hires with the most hype WHEN they were hired. I remember when Saban was hired I thought it was a good hire, but a lot of fans were not thrilled with it and kept mentioning how we just beat Saban's arse in the bowl game against Michigan State.
If we are saying best hires period, then Skip Bertman is the clear #1 and Saban is a close second. You would have to put Pat Henry in there, too, both Men's and Women's T&F dominated when he was here.
If we are saying coaching hires as in coaches who already had the skins on the wall before they got to LSU, then the obvious answer is Kim Mulkey.

The answer depends on one’s perspective.
There’s at least one dude walking the planet whose answer is Curley Hallman.

No, sadly it’s not a troll. He and pirate king really believe Orgeron should be mentioned in the same breath as coaches who have won multiple national championships and who have proven to be much more consistently successful.
If you acknowledge reality about Orgerons tenure to date, then you’re an “O hater”
ETA to address the OP:
Based on the criteria you used, Mulkey has to be the most accomplished hire we’ve ever made coming in I would think.
As far as impact on the university, Saban is the obvious answer. He completely changed the culture of our athletic department and bc of it many powerful people and most fans now expect much more than 8-4.

Have to disagree with this. The team was pretty dang good. The coaching was really mediocre. Running a extremely outdated offense, they were still winning 9 games a year because of how talented the roster was.
Outside of two seasons where things lined up, Miles’ teams always tended to have holes. This was especially true his last few seasons. Too few LBs. Not enough depth on the lines. Really mediocre QB recruiting. We were stacked at RB, WR and the secondary, but there were just too many times that needs weren’t addressed and young guys or guys who weren’t SEC-level had to play significant roles.
This has gotten better under O, but still hasn’t been completely solved. QB and the D Line are much better, and LB recruiting has been pretty good, but the O Line recruiting still hasn’t been where it needs to be. Hopefully this year’s impressive class is the beginning of that turning around.
As for the coaching hires:
Bertman
Saban
Dietzel
Brown
Three title winners and a guy who built up a very consistent program at a school that has never sustained success in hoops before him.

Mulkey and Bo Rein would be ridiculous at this stage since neither has coached a game at LSU.
Will Wade took over a team that was at the bottom of the SEC. What has he accomplished? He has taken us to the top of the SEC and it appears we are there to stay.
Barring some unseen catastrophe, Orgeron is on the same path.
Best QB room in the history of LSU. He has been pretty dominate on all fronts except vs Saban.

Nick did a great job coming in for the previous coach and righted the ship. And then in short order, got us in the NC game. He had one NC. Any further greatness was at someone else's place. Great job for Nick. Then he decided to take it to the NFL which didn't go so great.
But the greatest coach for LSU is definitely Skip. Hands down. He got us in the hunt for NC, marketed the hell out of LSU, brought in some great talents from all over, packed the stadium for 20 years, etc.
Again not knocking Nick who turns out the gumps every year but it seems like someone is wishful thinking. Reminds me back in the last year of Stovall where the resounding voices were shouting "Bring Mac Back" (Mac Brown).
Not "potentially" the greatest hire but actually the greatest coach of LSU.
