Jack Merrifield is a 2B/SS/3B and will be one of the best 9 hitters. Hit almost .400 last year and won national defensive player of the year for LSUE national championship team. I think he will be in the lineup. Maybe over Thompson

You left off DiGiocomo. I’m not sure how you fit all of these guys in, but CJJ will find a way. Freakin Stacked!

Not a negative on Thompson but Merrifield is a badass player from JC. Let it play out and if the defense is similar you go with the better bat. Lot's of good tough decisions for coach Johnson!!!

I hope Travinski is back in the lineup after injury, he was starting off the season pretty well.
He wasn’t very good in SEC play but he has some raw talent. The bug issue is he isn’t catching in 2022. His only way into the lineup is DH and I could see him becoming a roster casualty because of it.

Thompson had some critical errors and didn’t have a great bat. He could get a lot better but he’s not a lock to start.

Gio and Drost will be in the lineup.

That would be interesting for both.

Drost?

Drost has Diechmann like potential written all over him, but I don’t see a situation where both Gio and Drost start. I think it’s one or the other, and they’re going to have to hold off Pearson for the spot.
As of now, I’d like to see a lineup look something like this:
1. Crews (RF)
2. Morgan (CF)
3. Berry (1B)
4. Dugas (LF)
5. Doughty (3B)
6. McManus (C)
7. Bianco (DH)
8. Thompson (SS)
9. Merrifield (2B)

Don’t be surprised to see a big jump from him. He was rushed and young for his class, and Mainieri’s approach is basically the worst thing possible for a young hitter struggling to figure things out. It may not be next year but he’ll be a big contributor here if he sticks it out.

Drost is going to be good. I hope all these marginal guys returning doesn’t run him off

I was thinking the same thing Lester with especially with GIO coming back. I hope we don’t lose Drost because of GIO I would actually rather Drost just based on potential I think what you see with GIO is what you get

OMG. Is this real life?

It's really formidable. A return to the halcyon days of the 1990s?

Agreed. Gio is serviceable, but we have guys with a far higher upside that need ABs.
