Thinking of making a run from Myrtle Grove to the Four Bayou Pass area. Does anyone know if the trout are biting in this area?

I am thinking of doing this also. Does the myrtle grove launch sell bait? Have you done this before? Any way you could post up a good route?

Yes they sell bait and the route is easy. Run Wilkerson/Myrtle Grove canal to Barataria Bay. Head south-southwest to GI. Barataria Bay can get choppy so watch the storms.

Trout are all over, if you don't catch any in 5 minutes just move. Beach is loaded with trout on all the barrier islands. 2 problems we encountered this week not being able to sustain a frenzy. First, sharks are thick and the action grabs their attention and they shut down the bite. Second, dumbasses are riding over the biting fish on plane... there is the entire gulf of Mexico and they have to ride over the school of trout.
There are trout behind the islands and in the bays but I find they are small. Also, birds almost always were on small trout or catfish. Gaff tops are plentiful and taste good if you just want some meat, mostly under birds.
We launched from Myrtle grove, it was nice. It was $40 ish for launch, parking and 80 shrimp. I fished plastics all day and caught just as many if not more trout than those fishing shrimp. The guys fishing shrimp also had to pull off hard heads every third cast.

Thursday
I'll be in Grand Isle Thursday through Sunday, but we went out of Myrtle grove this past Thursday. I have been in the area every week in June and July so far and trout are all over, the challenge is landing keepers, most of our keepers came on the islands at the points and gulf side.

Right. I've been covering 70 miles out of Hopedale recently. Went to GI but drove.

I am only staying in GI for the wife and kids to play on the beach, otherwise I don't think I would ever make that drive again.

Thanks for the replies. Gunner, this really isn't a a "long run." I admit that the trip down Wilkinson Canal (about 12 miles) is time consuming, but you are running in protected. Once I leave the canal I turn left and just keep the eastern shoreline in sight. You will pass Bay Jimmy, Lake Grand Ecaille, etc. until you get near the 4 Bayou Pass area. The distance from the mouth of the canal to 4 Bayou Pass is about 12 miles.
