Just watched some players turn their backs on the flag before the women’s game

Don’t really care about your political views, but they did this in front of a guy that put his life on the line so they have the freedom to do that without being imprisoned.
That was insanely disrespectful, hope they get some backlash and punishment from the coaches for that.

WW2 vet playing the anthem. That’s absolutely disgraceful. I don’t care how you feel about the kneeling / anthem debate but to do that with the national jersey on in that moment is incredibly disrespectful. They shouldn’t be on the team.

The 15 year old boys just scored again

I think you’re mad at the wrong set of players (although I only watched the clip online at not during the game).
The ones who were turned to their side (no one turned their back) had their hands on their hearts and all clapped after he finished. The ones who were staring straight ahead were not doing that but were facing him directly. I don’t think most of the second set clapped afterwards.

It was very hard to tell what was going on from the tweet. I want to give the benefit of the doubt and assume they were looking at the flag as the anthem was played. If Rapinoe had been out there, it would be obvious what the intent was.

It looked like all put two players were looking at the flag which I am guessing was on the end of the stadium away from the WWII vet. Two were looking at the stands and the others were looking at the flag but back to the performer?

Looked like press was one that stood there, didn't even clap after.

The behavior of the ones looking away seemed the least suspect. The Brazil team did the same thing this evening and it was clear they weren’t being disrespectful.
Press and Dunn looked straight ahead and didn’t clap afterwards but it also wouldn’t have looked as out of place imo if not for the other players standing to the side (likely because of the flag placement)

To be clear, no one turned their back on WWII Veteran Pete DuPré during tonight's anthem. Some USWNT players were simply looking at the flag on a pole in one end of the stadium. The players all love Pete, thanked him individually after the game and signed a ball for him.

Yeah I think the ones facing forward were protesting or whatever they want to call it. Either way I just find it disheartening seeing that and then seeing other countries lock arms and belt out their anthems like they actually have pride in their country.
I wish that was something we could do as Americans without any partisanship coming into play.
If ever there should have been a feel good moment we could all come together on, a 98yo WW2 vet laying down the anthem on a harmonica seems like it would have been it lol. Guess not.

This is the kind of shite you say when you’re trying too hard to avoid suspicion.

Don’t think any turned their back on him directly the way it’s being viewed. Some players turned to their right to face the flag. Others stayed facing the front which was the same way the Vet was facing.
Would I prefer all of them sing with their hands over their hearts? For sure. But it’s also being twisted from what actually happened.

Or the shite you say when everyone has got the narrative they want wrong.
This is such a nothing story, but everyone is looking to be triggered.

I agree.

I don't really give a shite about the USWNT because they are too good and a lot of their arguments for pay raises are disingenuous.
With that said, people looking to get mad on the internet about this is no different than when liberal voters got outrage over literally every single movement Trump made.
You're no different.

But I'm here to tell you about mine and why these players are wrong. GTFOH and stop looking for shite to piss you off.

I can't stand almost anything about the USWNT anymore but anyone who knows anything knows the ones who "turned" are the ones saluting and honoring the flag. The ones standing straight ahead are the woke morons and all the usual suspects but it was disappointing to see our captain being one of them.
