Never drove a Suburu until we rented one on vacation at Glacier NP in Montana last year. When we got home I went out and bought my wife a 2021 Touring model. Fantastic so far. Will get Baby Crow one when she graduates in 2 years.

The big thing is that if one tire blows out you gotta replace them all.

quote:dude, I got the top of the line model for under $25K (2018, 48K on miles), but it IS worth it getting the touring package

For $25k you are going to be in a stripped down model.
Carmax just told me they’d buy my current vehicle for $18k, so I can actually raise my budget to $32k. $35k if I get into a bind.
There are 2 trims that are higher on the scale, both come with the “better” engine, I chose the Touring trim because of the gas mileage

My company uses Subaru for sales vehicles. I’ve had an 18’ & currently drive a ‘20. Great all around wagon. That’s what it is…a lifted wagon with all wheel drive.
The eye-sight safety suite is amazing & has saved me from multiple small fender-benders. It has plenty of room in back for kids & gets excellent mpg. The new upgraded infotainment for the ‘20 model year (while buggy at first) is excellent & as big as the new RAMs screen.
The all wheel drive is very handy, especially during wet weather & the Feb Snowpocalypse in Louisiana. I was moving down the road on completely covered snow/ice roads with confidence. The cross bars on top can be moved in place to support cargo box , bike or kayak rack like I have….very cool.
The only thing I don’t like is the CVT transmission, .it’s never given me any issues but I just don’t like them in general & I don’t think they last as long. Other than that I Highly recommend….get certified.

If you are a white guy with dreadlocks who communes with trees and grasses, then, yes, this is the car for you.

The other concern is the aluminum unibody.
To the OP: personally, I would never drive one myself, but I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase one for one of my kids. They’re safe and reliable and as for wet weather driving, AWD cant be beat.

I have a 2018 Outback and it’s the best car I’ve ever had. The driver assistance features are so good that it feels weird and even dangerous to drive a car without them.

That's exactly how I felt about my '09 Impreza after I drove it a few days, and it didn't even have the newer stuff (EyeSight, etc.)
Other cars just felt dangerous and incomplete. It's hard to explain.

Be prepared to own it for a long time. My friend has a 90's model his wife has driven since new...they've driven it all over N Amer...approaching 400K miles...they can't get rid of it, has alot of meaning to the fam...very reliable other than typical maintenance.

No you dont. They "recommend" it. Companies "recommend" a lot of unneccesary shite that doesnt make that much of a diffference because uninformed people will fall for it.

No way would I buy a Subaru. His two yr old Subaru is stuck at the dealer waiting for the short block to be replaced due to burning oil.
It has been weeks. Dealer told him they have two other cars ahead of him that are also having the short block replaced.

Dont they have nitrogen or something other than air in them?

Been in a couple. The Interiors remind me of 70’s & 80’s Toyota’s because they feel kind of cheap, Spartan and like they’ll eventually rattle and squeak at some point. The motor is buzzy sounding like a can of muffled bees are stuck in the rear bumper. It isn’t something I could see myself paying money for.

Check for a used Pontiac Aztec.

I own a ‘15 base model outback 4 cyl.
The thing is slow and noisy. Interior is spacious and accommodating. Sound system sucks. Touch screen interface sucks. It’s slow to adjust volume, with dial or buttons which is annoying. It gets 31 mpg on the interstate and does fine on 87 octane. The CVT transmission is the weakest thing in the world. It’s an ugly car in my opinion. I can’t get rid of it because it’s cheap and it does everything I need it to do.

It's not a joke. Subaru is the official car of lesbians.
How Subarus Came to Be Seen as Cars for Lesbians
Posted on 7/4/21 at 8:36 am to StringedInstruments
There are a lot of them around my area. The lesbian stuff is moronic and carryover from a stupid marketing ploy decades old. People buy them now for safety and incredibly effective all wheel drive and reliability.
Neighbor has 2021 model. He says it’s incredibly safe and reliable. Has features to essentially drive itself.
I rode with him and it’s really comfortable. Surprisingly so. The cabin is nicely laid out. The screen interface is good but it looks like geared for younger driver.
Overall, I was really surprised at how nice his car rode.

They're great vehicles. We have a Legacy (2017), 70k on it now no problems. My mom has a 2020 Forester, no problems.
Look for a certified used one to get the 100k warranty.
