90% of the time robbing a home run is a significantly overrated play. Watching MLB Flashbacks and they had a string of home runs being robbed. Most were unimpressive.

There are hundreds of feet to the fence and then hundred above it.

For a ball to end up exactly where an OF can catch it to keep it from going over is pretty cool.

That being said, if you watche enough baseball highlights they all become less impressive because there are only so many diving saves and home runs you can watch before they blend together.

The amazing level of athleticism it takes to make it to the MLB has numbed you to how amazing it is to accomplish.

Guys living and dying based on what a bunch of 24 year olds do with a ball 16 weekends out of the year is kinda pathetic.

Had an 8 year old rob a homer on a 200 foot fence last week. I get that they are athletes but to jump 10 inches and catch a ball (which is what many of those catches are) doesn’t take freakish athleticism.
Not saying that aren’t awesome because of what they are. Just that it’s not some awe inspiring play.

10 inches? Yeah, maybe in little league. Very few major league parks have fences that low.

Most of the fences I found were about 8 feet. Doesn’t take Michael Jordan to get your glove over those fences. Meaning a vertical of about 12 inches would get you plenty of room over the fence.

That is unpopular, you reading ball off the bat, running full speed, slow down to time a jump to stick your hand is the spot you anticipate a ball falling at about 70-80 MPH.....

Sometimes it is unimpressive. usually it takes an incredible amount of closing speed, athletic leaping ability, and impeccable timing

I implore you to try it. Just because they make it look easy doesn't mean it is.

Even in college baseball how many homeruns do you see robbed? Answer, not many because that shite is really hard.

I actually did this while playing softball. In the end, when the ball went to track area, i wanted no part of the fence and jumping anywhere near it.

NFL needs to adopt the college overtime format. Overtime in the pros is such a letdown and I hate watching it, especially since they made it only 10 minutes.

I think the more accurate response would have been

quote:

Watching MLB Flashbacks and they had a string of home runs being robbed. 90% of the time, they were robbing doubles and hits off the wall.

I think the reason it gets so much hype is because of the significance. Infielders make plays that are a lot more exciting because of how fast it happens. But, when an OF robs a HR, they are literally taking runs off the board.
