Nawlins restaurant advice

I’m thinking of taking my daughter to New Orleans and need some restaurant advice. I’ll do high end one night, but what are some good hole in wall or smaller places that make a good gumbo, etouffee, poboy, etc…
Plus, give me a good recommendation for beignets and which high end place we should go. Commanders is obvious, but any others I should consider?

Beignets: Cafe Du Monde. Everything else is a knock-off.

For the high end meal, what kind of atmosphere would your daughter enjoy? How old is she?

For a high end meal I suggest Compere Lapin or Bywater American Bistro. They are both owned by a great local chef, Nina Compton.

A jazz brunch can be a lot of fun for any age. Commander's is an option, but wherever you go, plan ahead and make reservations. Arnaud's jazz brunch is also festive and a lot of fun. Order a flaming dessert made at the table. Kids enjoy that though I don't know how hold your daughter is.
My nieces love going to Galatoire's. Big menu, old school,historic, lots of activity and just an all around festive atmosphere.
They love Peche, Brigsten's and Mr. B's as well.

Most locals call it like it's spelled like this, "New Ore-lens.
Some fools really screw it up and call it "New Orlyens"

I'm from here an catch myself pronouncing it multiple ways...mostly Nu Orlenz or Nu Orlunz. Sometimes Nu Orleens and even New Or-ly-inz.

I disagree and prefer The Morning Call. Both started in the 1800s with CDM being a little older.

While I don't disagree about the quality of her restaurants are there many chefs that aren't local? She like many chefs is a transplant that won the Top Chef title when it filmed in NOLA, fell in love with the city and opened up Compere Lapin.
I too would recommend Commanders. It's an unbelievable experience. If you really want to splurge see if they are doing the chef's table.
Clancy's is nice also, and a bit more homey. I really enjoy GW Fins and if you must it's not too far from Bourbon Street. My last recommendation would be Brigsten's in the riverbend area. I have yet to go to Restaurant R'evolution but have never heard anybody complain about it. There are some very good steakhouses in town too (Doris Metropolitan, Desi Vega to name two) if you want steaks. I believe all of these are open.

Meanwhile, Cafe Du Monde has been in the French Quarter for almost 160 years.

Don’t worry. I used to live in NOLA in the eighties so I won’t offend anyone. I just remember there being a lot of small restaurants with very good food (cannot survive down there if your food isn’t good).

I stand by my previous recommendations. Also, you might enjoy Liuzza's By the Track.
I never order etouffee in New Orleans. It's really a Cajun dish, but perhaps others do and can recommend a good place for that. Bon Ton was known for it, but sadly it sold and has not reopened.

If older, still pretty cool area and different get away from FQ. Morning Call on Canal Blvd recently opened but parking is trouble.
