So how am I supposed to get down there and how long is it? I’d rather try something FDA approved. Now MDMA therapy might be legit. But it will never be legal here.

Depression- how have you overcome it?

Well from a couple of bouts of legit depression I have had, one in conjunction with a severe case of OCD 30 years ago, what I can say is that once you get on the other side of what I call "The Wall", things look totally different.

When I was going through my dark times as a 17 year old, I was blessed. My Mom was a nurse and was fully involved in helping me. You have to attack things in a multi-faceted way as well. Four things I would count on to stabilize you and get you to a better place are as follows...

1. Get the help of a PSYCHOLOGIST specifically. Have them work with an MD for RX purposes as well.

2. Get meds and get the right mix...two things I suggest, get an anti-anxiety medication for the immediate relief, as long as you have substantial anxiety you won't be capable of tackling the underlying long term issue(s). Then make sure you get a long term type of anti-depressant to get the chemicals balanced over the course of time. This might take some time but worth the effort.

3. Seek support from your Family and loved ones...they need to be aware and involved with your situation. You need support and need at least one someone you can turn to. I would also seek support from those who have been there and gotten over "The Wall" to the other side, that was priceless for me.

4. Finally, absolutely, 100% give yourself something to look forward to nightly at about the same time every night. In my case, my Mom would read to me Reader's Digest nightly to give me a basal thing to hold onto...a comfort blanket in ways to get me from one day to the next.

You don't have to be resigned to where you find yourself. Be pro-active for your care and wellbeing. Exercise if you can, make baby steps in the right direction...get the ball rolling for your sake and grind like your life depends on it...it just might. But please if you find yourself in the bleakest of moments, REACH OUT for help before you do anything rash! Don't be over-run by this, take your life, your happiness and contentment, and your future by the horns. You will never regret the positivity you can have in life by trying and you can also find purpose in helping others as well!

Finally, if you are of faith...pray pray pray! Best wishes to you!

Get your diet right and get in the gym. I’m not sure if you’re single or married but pussy helps too.

I never did it alot but I often think that is what has led to my anxiety and depression problems. I've been going through it pretty rough for the last few days. Burned out at work, no energy when I get home. I have got to get myself out of this rut. I never take my xanax, but I've been taking 2 a day the last few days just to keep the anxiety attacks away.

I’m married.

Hitting the gym is tough for me as I have complicated spine problems and chronic pain. The pain definitely makes depression even worse.

I do not drink.

I need to try a new therapist

I make a point to spend at least 1 hour outside each day.

Have you ever considered seeing your doctor about testosterone injections? I’m not talking about getting roided up but when I hit 30 a few years back I felt like I was just a little sluggish and couldn’t understand why because I have an active lifestyle and I exercise regularly. I talked with my brother in law who is a couple years older than me and he went through the same thing. Went to his doctor and sure enough his testosterone levels were low. I went to my doctor, same result as him. The injections really made a difference. Maybe you should consider getting checked out. Getting older sucks man but it doesn’t mean you can’t be happy.

Holy hell man. I’m so sorry.

Someone mentioned Ketamine. The clinics are popping up. They are being overused for “Karen’s” of the world, but they all started because of promise shown in dealing people like you. PROFOUNDLY depressed. Sort of described as a chemical shock therapy. Shuts the brain down, fires some pleasure centers as you get high (but won’t recall any of it) and it’s like a reboot.

No shite. I work with a couple of docs who through a degree of separation know psychiatrists who use it for patients who basically “if you discharge them they’re going to do it.” Quote unquote.

This too. Low T causes a lot of shite that just steamrolls into more shite. Fat, depressed, anxious, irritable.

But like I said in my first reply in this thread. THERAPY. We as a society are under counseled and over medicated. Therapy IMO is the key to getting off meds or staying off of them.

Acute phase of depression though you will probably need both. But who the frick cares? When it’s take a pill or maybe kill yourself, frick what idiots say about meds.

The stigma of mental illness is crumbling. As it should.

No matter how happy or miserable you are at any point in your life , it’s meaningless. You, just like everybody else, will be totally forgotten.

It’s like that argument you got into last week about what to eat for dinner. Do you think you or anybody else reflects upon the decision? Were you happy with the choice or were you sad with a choice?

Regardless of your emotions at the time it’s meaningless if you were happy or sad with the choice. Nobody, even you, cares.

The only joy might be having a kid and living vicariously through their happiness, Even though you realize it’s futile, they don’t know that yet.

Don’t really struggle with depression but exercise and taking a multi vitamin has got me feeling a lot more energized and happy. If you’re solo get a cat or dog as a companion.

Exercise, sleep, relationships, spirituality, and diet. Get on top of those things.

Serving others can help change your focus & I think it can help with depression. It doesn’t have to be something huge. Even cutting someone’s lawn. If you don’t have a pet, maybe consider getting one.

ETA, didn’t realize how profound your depression is and I feel like an arse for basically saying “get a dog”. I think with your chronic pain, you may need specialists that treat depression that can result from that. I’m praying for you.

Think about what you want to do and work towards that.

Don’t just get by. Do better.

Get outside and get some fresh air. It’s easy to forget how calming and enjoyable it can be if you take time to do it.

Exercise is huge as well. Same as avoiding drinking frequently.

Jamaica? You just fly down. Still have to do covid shite for now, obviously to get in and out.

You apply to join a retreat; they'll assess if you are a good candidate. If accepted, then you go and do it.

The place I linked is Friday to Friday. There's 3 dosing days and 3 group integration days.

I’d rather try something FDA approved.
I wouldn't. They're going to drag arse on this shite for years. Meanwhile, you can be getting real results with real people.

It is.

I think you're wrong. The re-scheduling of it will happen pretty quickly I predict.

Don’t load your plate up and think about all the shite you have to do. Stick to two tasks a day and accomplish them, like cleaning the house or reorganizing your closet. Keep doing this daily. The small seemingly insignificant wins will build you up as you check them off
