No clue. Mine was a tiller steer, no console. Would have preferred a console TBH but bought it second hand with a 40 HP Tohatsu 2 stroke in 92. Fished it until about 3 years ago.

The general rule of thumb for fishing is whatever size boat you have, you should have gotten one at least two foot bigger.

Storage is why.

You had a 2 stroke 25 on a 12 ft V hull?

I bet that thing would haul arse. My dad had a 15 ft Alweld with the same motor and it would scoot 35-40mph which is quick for a small craft

I’ve always had small flat bottom boats since they fit most of my needs and budget.

The current and previous one, I removed the center bench for a more open floor.

I would like to have a larger deck for fishing but not like some of these builds where half the floor is deck. I mostly use my boat for hunting.

Gotta have some place to store all of the small stuff that ends up in the bottom of the boat. Paddle, Spotlight, Fire Extinguisher, First Aid, etc.

I can say at least from a hunting standpoint, when you're trying to hide the boat you will wish it had been 2' shorter!

You need to take s trip to bayou sorrel.

The first time you see a crawfish boat doing 70 towing a skier so drunk he cant walk it's gonna blow your mind

I got a 17' flats boat, and to be honest, I love it but it sucks for bringing buddies or family.

The plan is to keep it and get a more chill family boat we can use for just going to barrier islands or something.

So yeah I guess I could see I bought into the fad, but I also was a kayaker and didn't want to give up that style of fishing.

Is that the guy from thresher outdoors or fishing whatever the complete name is. I go to the thresher fishing channel on YouTube and he has a microskiff just like the one shown.

I have a 1436 rivet boat with a 25 hp johnson on a jack plate. If I trim it up itll hit close to 40 but it gets squirrely. I have it trimmed down and it does a respectable 30-35

Fad?

I've been fishing out of a 1436 my whole life. I have friends with bigger boats, I don't need all that grief.

I'm not sure how much storage folks need, maybe people just bring too much crap on their boat.

-Cooler.
-Milk crate for loose items (sunscreen, tackle boxes, sandwich, one-hitter, etc) .
-Paddle for emergency, I have the collapsible telescopic kind that don't take much space.
-Two, maybe three rods if I'm feeling feisty.
-Tiller motors so a console doesn't take up so much space.
-Life jackets are stowed up under the front deck with anchor.
-Frabill Flow-Troll minnow/shrimp bucket I keep in the water when not underway.

If in water requiring a throw device, sit on it.

Not sure what else people feel the need to bring.

My 6yo fishes with me too. We actually make do on a 12' alumicraft most trips. The 1436 accomodates us AND the wife.

I have to lay the law down "no you don't need this, no we're not bringing that". Otherwise ANY boat will fill up fast. We rented a 22' pontoon on a vacation last year and guess what, they STILL filled it up with crap that wasn't needed. You need to take a stand as the captain of your vessel. Do you think Quint would have let Hooper bring all that bullshite on his boat if it weren't Brody's charter?

I hit 40 on the Amite. Most times it topped out at 38 and that was plenty. Not much boat left in the water at that speed, I was breaking water behind my seat.

Sold that and put it towards a ski boat we all can enjoy. Now I don't let people wear shoes in my boat.

its basically a paddle board outfitted with a 9.9 hp motor.

Talk about a tiny boat. I'm not going to lie I want one.

Have 1436 alweld boat with 25 Merc 2 stroke. Runs like a scalded dog with his butt on fire. Good for duck hunting and fishing too.

They have inflatable ones too. That's an idea, because you could bring it anywhere without even having a rack. But idk how I'd feel having hooks in the vicinity of an inflatable.
