If you want to post salaries...post salaries, if you don't want to....then don't.
As a private company you should have the authority to handle your hiring postings however you feel is fit.
In the end, you are the one who assumes the risk....not lawmakers.

Why not disclose starting salaries? Seems like it would save people a lot of time.
I understand why they do it, but I don’t like it.

Negotiating my current salary + benefits netted me a 20k/year bump and an extra week of vacation, making me now have 4 weeks/year. Had I taken the first offer, it would have been 13k/year over previous and no extra vacation.
Seems like a completely different situation than going through a job interview process and finding out it pays 15k less than you thought.
I don't See anything about this law
Prohibiting you from negotiating a raise

What's the monthly take home difference of $7k annually at the person's highest marginal tax rate?
350/month. Hee haw, freedom!!!!

Whether you agree or disagree with the law, business are fighting back and it is biting Colorado is the arse. They really need California/Texas/Florida/NY/VA to pass similar legislation.

This is why people become socialists
There are smart, sound business practices that absolutely frick over your employees, and labor force.
There definitely is something wrong with wasting someone’s time in an interview process. Defending it as “fine” isn’t going to win you many friends. And ultimately in a democracy or otherwise the masses matter.

How is anything I said "fear mongering"? It's just what happens? I'm not saying it's going to snowball into that. I'm simply pointing out that this is the first step to getting there. Is that something the government should be involved in? No.

Who is this law hurting?
Who is this law helping? Why is it needed? Because the government thinks private businesses should have to disclose salaries in a job posting just like the government does?

So you wouldn't take the extra just because you think you shouldn't have to negotiate? Sure it wasn't a life changing amount (like the job was) but it was 7k more than they would have given me if I would have just bent over and taken their offer. I've done that multiple times in my career now and those 5-7k negotiating bumps over their offers have added up quite nicely.
You seem like you are a dolt who just doesn't want to ever have to put forth any sort of effort unless you deem it worthy. That or you just have pussy tendencies and negotiating for your own worth and prosperity seems like too much for you to contend with. I could be way off but that is how you seem in this thread.

No, this is why soft, incapable people prefer socialism.

difference of generations maybe?
I can’t answer everyone’s reply - but it’s possibly difference of generations … and also bc the field I’m in
Most of what i would apply for would be in the government sector, that which I would apply for out of government sector would usually have the salary posted to attract better people
I don’t like the fact that it’s a law, I do not think the government regulating every little thing is good, but Colorado has some messed up labor/employment laws so I didn’t necessarily think this was a bad one.

It's their belief that minorities are offered less. If the pay is posted, then it mitigates some of that perceived bias.
But in all honesty. Housing costs in minority neighborhoods is less than housing costs in white neighborhoods.
But cost, for whatever reason, is not factored into the equation.

What's stopping a qualified candidate from negotiating up from an advertised starting salary?

When you look at jobs as a business transaction, employers are the customers: they are buying your labor, skills, and experience in exchange for compensation.
Do customers typically go into a business and offer what they are willing to pay for a product or does the business usually indicate what it is willing to accept?
It makes no sense to me to do both types of transactions differently.

I'm about to lose 3 weeks of vacation time because I didn't use them, and I didn't take paternity leave either.
Those are my choices of effort. I like pushing harder than the other guy, it's helped me double my salary in just the past 4 years. My director negotiated my salary increase on my behalf so I wouldn't leave. (Entry level to Senior Analyst)

It ultimately comes down to what type of work atmosphere you have. Do you have a team of people who are all working for the bare minimum they'd accept to perform a task or a team of likely more qualified people working for more money but with a baseline understanding that they are being paid commensurate with the work product expected from them.
A lot of short-sighted, greedy business owners would go with the former while others who understand that the comfort of employees results in better overall performance.

lol this is a weak arse argument and you know it. 4 weeks off is just the cherry on top. I regularly lose 5-7 days a year because I don't have time to use them, but when I almost died last year, I was able to take three weeks off with no problem.
