So what do you do if you see a kid drowning?

I grab a board and go get them. I've done it twice, once it was a 10 year old the other time it was 2 drunk college girls. With the kid I had him grab the board and I just swam out. The drunks were too stupid to swim so we had to float until the current pushed us out and then back in.

We were in Ft. Walton a few weeks ago, and it was double red flags the entire time. And the cops weren't fricking around either. Anyone who stepped foot in the water, the cops were rolling up with the quickness to bitch at them.

There were threatening to ticket people, and apparently the ticket is north of $2,000.00.

To be totally frank, our beaches just aren’t safe right now.

The beaches sound safe, it's the water you seemingly need to avoid.

Looking at that pic, it almost seems like if someone did swim parallel and out of one rip, they would be swimming straight into another.

It's an aerial pic so you have a good 100-200 feet to swim before you reach the next rip current. Look at the distance between rips compared to the length of the beach houses.

Damn my boat is fast then. Alabama has a 53 mile coastline, google it. It’s not 95 miles from Destin Harbor to mobile bay but that’s irrelevant.

Don’t give a flip whether you come to beach or not, it’s almost impossible to get a place now so if you bail there are 3 people to replace you.

I would prefer that I don’t have to see your fat arse on my 6 o’clock news crying about the death of your kids or spouse and how you didn’t know how dangerous it is.

Just be careful that’s my damn point, or don’t get sloppy drunk and pass your fat arse out in the sand like a beached whale and let your kids go wild and do whatever the hell they hell they want to do like you typically do. This often gets some poor good guy killed while trying to rescue your little shits while you take your beer nap.

Please take your beer nap on a nice big raft or float so I can laugh at you as I pass you floating out into the Gulf. Maybe you will attract some cobia or something

I got caught in one a few years ago. Pretty sure there was a similar thread to this and the biggest thing that helped me was all you pros saying not to panic. Let the current take you and slowly swim parallel. Once you get back to shore let everyone know. It was a yellow flag day that ended up being red flag the rest of the week.

This deputy was also wearing a life jacket. For some reason this was not a widely publicized fact.

I took my boat from Madisonville (Tchefuncte River) to Destin harbor a few years ago and it was 214 miles.

TutHillTiger, it is 93 miles from Sand Island Light house (Dauphin Island) to East Pass (Destin). Tell me more about this 45 minute boat ride you made between the two please.

Tut, are your getting Perdido Pass (Orange Beach), which is 30 miles from Dauphin Island, confused with East Pass (Destin)? That is a pretty big oops. Especially after you said to google it (which you obviously didn’t). Between this, and the 12’ waves on a 3-4’ day, and bobcats attacking people in masse, it is hard to take you seriously.

We have had 3 drownings from Rip tides this week, one at the same damn place where the police officer drown a few months ago.

Do whatever the damn distance is, abs who really gives a flying frick, if you are going to beach please be careful.

And I never said shite about 12 foot seas ever and exactly what I was says was completely verified by multiple charter boat captains and OB members from DI, so Geaux frick yourself dude.

But you are correct about distance between Destin and Dauphin island, but again what the frick difference does that make? Are you telling people to ignore the double red flags etc,.

I am just posting this because I grew up in Ocean Springs which isn’t far away and never heard shite about all these drownings until I moved here

Is this because of fatigue fighting the current? Does swimming parallel to the beach really help?

It can, best thing to do is kick back on your back and let it swirl you right back to shore
