All I could Find:

Two anglers confessed to taking fish previously caught and stored in a fish barrel to try and win a CHARITY tourney Sat on Caddo. The tourney was the "Reelin for Kids Benefit Tourney" raising $$ for area foster kids. The anglers were observed and reported and LADWF pulled them aside at the weigh-in and point blank asked them if they and CHEATED and they said YES.

Hunter Moss- currently listed as a Jr. on LSUS fishing roster.
Phillip Purcell- he's a fn registered sex offender to boot...

Several other anglers reported "suspicious" activity.

One of the landowners nearby caught them in the act and reported it. The barrel was close to the bank up Jeems bayou.

A felony in LA

If the prize is over $100.

“Felony” is any crime for which an offender may be sentenced to death or imprisonment at hard labor. “Misdemeanor” is any crime other than a felony. La. Stat. Ann. § 14:2(4) & (6). Hard labor is basically doing time in the custody of DOC rather than the local jail.

LSA-R.S. 14:214; Fishing or hunting contest fraud

A. The crime of fishing or hunting contest fraud is the act of any person, who, with the intent to defraud, knowingly makes a false representation in an effort to win any prize awarded in any fishing or hunting contest.

B. When the most valuable prize offered in the contest amounts to a value of less than one hundred dollars, the offender shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars, imprisoned for not more than six months, or both. (hard labor not an option)

C. When the most valuable prize offered in the contest amounts to a value of one hundred dollars or more, the offender shall be fined not more than three thousand dollars, imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not more than one year, or both.

***

In Texas, Tex. Parks & Wild. Code Ann. § 66.023, Fraud in Fishing Tournaments, defines fraud broadly, including if a sponsor or organizer knows of the fraud "and does not immediately notify a law enforcement officer" of its occurrence.

(d) An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor, except that if the offense occurred during a tournament in which any prize or combination of prizes to be awarded for any one category for which an award is given, whether the prize or prizes are to an individual or a team, is worth $10,000 or more in money or goods, the offense is a felony of the third degree.
