McDonnell should still be the top choice

I know they fell off at the end of this year, but 5 CWS appearances in 14 seasons is absurd.
O’Sullivan is no better than even 2018-2021 CPM, and Vitello doesnt have nearly enough HC experience.
Make McDonnell say no to $2M before you do anything else.

If this board held McDonnell to the same standard they hold PM and O'Sullivan to then he wouldn't be on the list after missing the tournament.

I have no idea if he would leave but he’s really the only “Brinks Truck” guy IMO.
Schloss is a solid coach; O’Sullivan gets sucked off on here for one flukey H2H series that would have gone a lot differently if Walker stays healthy.
And don’t even get me started on Vitello - 3 full seasons as a head coach? G T F O

Didn’t our Baseball coach make 5 cws in 15 years. I don’t see the difference. Only thing I see is maybe they have appearances more recently.
Sully has more appearances in CWS and Paul and sully did it in a better conference. I don’t see why people are shitting on sully. I think with facilities everything at LSU he dominates.

Paul did this between 2008-2017 (08, 09, 13, 15, 17)... and he actually won one unlike McDonnel.

I like McDonnell a lot, but you know Sully has made the CWS 7 times in 12 seasons right?
Maybe more impressive than that, Sully has made the CWS semis or deeper in 4 of his 12 seasons. 33% of his seasons have resulted in his team being one of the final 4 teams standing.

What's absurd is only winning a total of 4 games in 5 CWS appearances. Does he tell the bus driver to leave the engine running when he gets to Omaha

Sully is a better choice than McDonnell, IMO.

Agreed.
Based on resume alone, no candidate comes close to Sully’s. That’s why I find it interesting that some don’t seem excited about Sully. As far as resumes and skins on the wall, it’s not even close who the top candidate should be. That said, I understand the sentiment of wanting someone who hasn’t climbed the mountain yet, but make no mistake ... On paper, O’Sullivan is a no-brainer if you can get him.

Yeah, because despite what many on this board are saying he’s one of the best college baseball coaches ever.
But since he can’t keep coaching at an elite level because of his health he’s stepping down and I’m suggesting a guy 10 years younger with a similar performance history.

Sully is good. I don't think anyone will say otherwise but he underperforms. He gets a ton of talent and he underperforms fairly, not always but fairly consistently.
It's not a knock on the guy. He just underperforms with what he has to use. I'd rather not see that in BR.
On the flip side, I see Vitello making his team light it up. A few years ago, TN baseball was a doormat. He's turned them into a legit team.
Just my worthless two cents. I'd take Vitello over Sully in a second.

McDonnell was always my #1 choice, but this thread is making a pretty convincing case for Sully.
LSU would be awesome to get Vitello, McDonnell, or Sully. As well as a few others.

There are 4 coaches that if chosen I would be completely fine with and excited about the future.
Sully
Vitello
McDonnell
Schloss
As long as it’s one of those 4 I’m going to be happy

Totally agree.

Cliff Godwin is where I would start looking. Four regionals (two hosted) and two Supers in 6 seasons at ECU is remarkable. Plus he has plenty of SEC experience.

Vitello has 19 years experience coaching baseball at the major d1 level. What exactly do you think he isn’t prepared for?

Take a look at Louisville’s baseball history before he got there.
