Cliff Godwin is where I would start looking. Four regionals (two hosted) and two Supers in 6 seasons at ECU is remarkable. Plus he has plenty of SEC experience.

I like him but let’s not act like ECU wasn’t a solid baseball program before he got there. They went to 10 regionals in a row from 99-09. They were the 1 seed in LSU’s regional at the Box in 1999.

McDonnell built Louisville out of nothing.

I agree. People forget quickly that he did this at Louisville. What were they prior to him?

The same can be said for Bianco at Ole Miss.

Take a look at Louisville’s baseball history before he got there.

And it's still inexcusable for him to miss the post season. If O'Sullivan did the same thing he would be off everyone's list.

Now the idiots will be in to compare records to CPM. As if one guy isn’t coaching a small city school and the other coaching the grandest baseball program of all LSU.

McDonnell penalized for overachieving. He is the best coach in America.

Sully is good. I don't think anyone will say otherwise but he underperforms.

I'm so tired of hearing this. If he underperforms, what would you call Mainieri's performance?

Yeah I wholeheartedly disagree with the notion that Sully has “underperformed.”

Making the CWS semifinals or finals 1 out of every 3 seasons is not underperforming.

Even with our arguably unrealistic expectations at LSU, making it that deep every third season would meet/exceed expectations.

if you think Louisville is a small city school then idk what to tell you.

Obviously Louisville wasn't a baseball school when he got there but they have been a power for the last 10 years. He doesn't get a pass for the failure of this year and only winning 4 games in 5 trips to Omaha because of what they were before he got there anymore.

I know they fell off at the end of this year, but 5 CWS appearances in 14 seasons is absurd.

You can’t say this, and follow it up with:

quote:

O’Sullivan is no better than even 2018-2021 CPM

When O’Sullivan has 7 CWS appearances in the same time span, with a Title and a runner-up finish.

Some of you people are just downright stupid.

How can he be the top choice if you back a gold truck up to his house and he still tells you to get off his lawn?

O’Sullivan gets sucked off on here for one flukey H2H series that would have gone a lot differently if Walker stays healthy.

O'Sullivan is 22-17 vs LSU since becoming head coach.

If this board held McDonnell to the same standard they hold PM and O'Sullivan to then he wouldn't be on the list after missing the tournament.

This was his worst year as HC. Mainieri had 5 similar season since he got here.

McDonnell was 1st in his Division/Conference in the Big East/ACC in 9 of his last 12 years there.

O’Sullivan took the Gators to seven CWS appearances in nine seasons from 2010-18. Missed it in ‘19 and of course ‘20 was scrubbed. What the frick kind of argument are you trying to make here?

I must have missed where we have missed the post season 5 times since Paul has been here

Maybe more impressive than that, Sully has made the CWS semis or deeper in 4 of his 12 seasons. 33% of his seasons have resulted in his team being one of the final 4 teams standing.

That‘s the most important piece of info I’ve seen in these discussions.

Paul did this between 2008-2017 (08, 09, 13, 15, 17)... and he actually won one unlike McDonnel.

and we were happy w Paul then.

And Mainieri's retiring. I don't disagree that he's also underperformed as of late. But he'll be retired.

He isn't my first choice.

In any event, if you want to see him get hired here, so be it. I'm not going to get bent out of shape about it.

I even went on to say it's my worthless two cents.

I'd rather not get Sully. Again, my worthless two cents. If you disagree, that's fine. Not worth getting so worked up over.

I'm not trying to make this into a big argument.
