The owner of a Baton Rouge clinical laboratory is accused of committing health care fraud to the tune of about $15 million dollars, defrauding the federal government and paying and receiving illegal kickbacks, federal prosecutors said Wednesday.
Malena Lepetich, 38, the owner of MedLogic, LLC., is accused of:
Asking for and getting kickbacks for referrals for medically unnecessary testing of urine specimens
Offering to pay kickbacks for referrals of specimens for COVID and respiratory pathogen testing
Causing the submission of over $10 million in claims for expensive respiratory testing that wasn't medically necessary to Medicare, Medicaid, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana.
The case is being prosecuted by Justin M. Woodward of the Gulf Coast Strike Force and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristen Craig of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Louisiana.

They must be rounding up a bunch of people at once for this shite. Arkansas had a guy they busted 2 days ago for 88 million.

I don't give a shite what she looks like. If she did that, I hope her life is ruined.
Anyone running schemes with my tax dollars needs to go down.

What a dumb arse and her lips are going to deflat quickly when she can't get them injected in jail.
Kickbacks are one of the biggest things that get people busted for fraud in healthcare and the first thing they talk about during compliance training. Unlike other industries you can't provide much of anything of value (no money, no trips, no tickets, etc) to Physicians for referrals, but idiots are always getting busted trying to provide kickbacks.
Next question, what Dr's was she paying kickbacks to? They need their day in court also.

They're about to HAM on COVID-related fraud. I bet they found out about the COVID thing first, then dug into her other business operations and found the rest.
I bet thousands of people are charged in the next couple of years with these frauds at a federal level. And that won't even make a dent in the pile.

I agree.
Should be automatic free labor for the state. Don't put them in jail and spend more tax dollars, have them perform 20,000 hours of community service picking up trash on the side of the road and other shite to pay the tax payers back.

Yeah, my butt would be puckered right now if I was someone involved in these types of schemes.

Is Baton Rouge the nations leader in health care fraud? I feel like this stiff happens too often in BR for the size of the city

If we're going strictly on the Fulmer scale, ol' baw arrested/indicted in Tennesee and Alabama (he had practices in both states) gives them the lead. He got popped along with half his damn family.
